How Fast Were Willow and Tara ?

I think the first time that Willow and Tara got closer than holding hands was in New Moon Rising, although when Tara said that she always knew if Oz came back she would be with him makes it seem like they where realy close before that. If it was before NMR than it was probably the episode where Buffy joins the Innitiative and Willow stays the night at Tara's Dorm room.

Joss Whedon always said that they were using magic to simulate sexual behaviour between Willow and Tara. I think they 1st felt their attraction for each other in Hush when they hold hands and felt the power they had together. Then, the following spells where used to simulate 1st base. They definetly hit 3rd base when they did the Passage to the NetherRealms spell.

Tara: It's nothing like we ever done before...

Willow: I trust you...

Then they get out of breath and all sweaty and Willow ends it in a moan...

If this is not their 1st sex scene I don't know what it could be... Was hot anyway...

Very plausible she was a virgin. When I wrote my own fics I was a little careless in my language so in my three AUs she wasn't but I might do it differently if I were starting over.

I agree... They had spiritual sex with the NetherRealms ' spell but the actual act was totally in NMR.

About Tara being a virgin...I'm not so sure. In "Tough Love" Willow says that Tara has been doing everything longer than her...practising magic longer...has been out longer...

I believe Miss Tara might have had someone else before Willow...but who cares?!? Nobody is as perfect for Tara than Willow

I always figured that being out was different than actually having dated or had sex with someone. I took that to mean that Tara knew her orientation earlier and was more public with it.

Same here; I see Willow's statement simply that Tara had accepted ehr own sexuality and was open about it* with anyone she felt she could trust with the info...which probably didn't include ehr cloeser relatives! My idea that she'd had an actual "something sexual" previously was just basically my own guess as to backstory.
*something people who write books about the B'verse, including Satfford and I think TOpping seemed to miss.

I used to want Willow to be Tara's first and only, now it's not so important to me and I'm open to different interpretations and keep changing my mind about it. Tara was definitely open about her sexuality, but the problem I have is with Willow's sexuality. I wish they had shown her having an interest in girls before Tara appeared. Willow noticing a pretty girl would have been better than her showing no interest whatsoever.

There was Vampire Willow of course, but shouldn't she have been gay not bi, or could an AU version of a character have a different sexuality? They did something similar on Star Trek:Deep Space Nine. Mirror Universe Kira, Ezri Dax and Leeta were all lesbians/bi, but seemed to be completely straight in their 'normal' universe.

Really? I can't remember anything, but it's been a while since I watched the early seasons. When I have the time I want to watch all the Willow scenes before she met Tara so I'll keep my eye out for anything that might suggest she was interested in girls. And after that I might just force myself to watch all the goodness.

As far as I know Willow really didn't show any interest in girls before she met Tara. She had a crush on Xander and then was with Oz obviously, and there wasn't much room for her noticing girls. The Doppelganger episode had her notice that Vamp Willow was gay and if you are watching the DVD or original version, not the one on FX, Angel indicates that a vampire does continue a person's personality and sexual inclinations, though he is sort of drowned out. I take this to mean the Willow always had a part of her that was capable of loving another woman. This would seem to indicate she was more bi than gay, though after Tara she seems to have given up on guys and stuck with woman identifying herself as gay.

One of the reasons Willow and Tara worked so well is that they approached the relationship as Willow was in love with another person, who happened to be a girl, and that was no big deal. While it would have been nice to see them explore the ramifications of Willow being gay, it wasn't necessary and the couple were the focus. Too bad they blew it in the end.
