Willow/Tara/Amber/Alyson Incident

I've seen something like this in another board but I haven't seen it here yet. But if I'm wrong and this thread or something quite similar to this already exists here, Mods, you're very welcome to delete it.



There are just those instances in our daily lives that always seem to have a connection to either Willow, Tara, Amber and/or Aly, aren't there? If the same is true for you, then you've come to the right place.



Please do type the name of the actress or character you've had an "incident" with in the subject space. Just so our stories are organized. Thanks!

What, no takers? Awww c'mon, fellas! Okay, I'll go first. Here's my Alyson Incident...



About a week ago, I was walking my dogs in the park when a small girl came up to me and wanted to pet my dog, Ghizmo. She squatted down and patted Ghizmo's head. After a minute her mother started calling her to ask her to go back in the house for a snack. The little girl's name was Alyson.

I don't know if this is an "incident"... but there was this big billboard a block before my previous job. During Fall and Winter, every year, they'd put the Amber Bock ad on it. I'd drive by every morning and just couldn't help smiling. Nothing better to start the day than Amber thoughts.

Last week, I was watching something, this woman named Tara came up, I just smiled all silly-like...and the very next day, I was at the library, I picked up a book titled...'Tara Road' and there were Willow trees there lol. The next book I saw, had a character named Tara in it. There's a Tara moment for ya

But here, the energy, the collective intelligence. It's like this force, t-this penetrating force, and I can just feel my mind opening up, you know, and letting this place just thrust into and -- and spurt knowledge into -- that sentence ended up in a different place than it started out in - Willow

not that big of an incident, but last week-end we had a soccer tournament, so 2 nights were spent in a hotel. tha name Tara is very rare here (don't know anyone named Tara nor anyone who knows anyone name Tara...), and well the girl at the reception was called Tara, blond haired and blue eyed, and each time i got to the reception (like 10 tens in all) it was always her answering me!

there must be more people called Tara, it would bring more smiles to my face!

Anyway, I had a Willow Incident yesterday while surfing the net. I was looking for some Nike shoes and on the search page, there was a result that said 'Welcome to Willowshoes!'

Yesterday (7/25), the New York Times Arts & Leisure section featured an article about the new Rubin Museum in downtown Manhattan. Among the items displayed in this collection of East Asian religious art, are various deities including "...the elegant goddess Tara, graceful embodiment of Compassion..."

Hemiola- you have hit on an important point. I am writing a paper for the next Slayage conference and my paper is entitled "The Compassionate Savioress of the Wolrd: Tara as Bodhisattva." In Tibetan Buddhism, Tara is revered as the Buddha who understands the world's pain and who will help you to overcome yours. Tara is known in a number of forms, which are known as colors, of which Green Tara and White Tara are most important. Green Tara is a fighting but loving Tara, while White Tara is the most compassionate form. Tara was born from a tear from the beloved bodhisattva Avilokiteshvara. Tara is known for seeing people as they really are and for helping them cope with the forces that they face every day- envy, jealousy, greed, want, etc. If you look at Tara, you will find that our Tara mimics her most significant aspects. Consider:

1. Tara was the sole person to whom the savior of the world, Buffy, could confess her affair with Spike, and she was the only Scooby who would not pass judgment on her.

2. Tara was the only person who could really see the Key (Dawn) as she really was, and I should note that Tara was the person who acted as mother to a force that could have ripped the universe apart. Dawn represented the possibility of universal chaos, but was protected by Tara.

3. Tara walked away from the most powerful woman in the world in an effort to help her learn not to want so badly, even though the effort was a terrible sacrifice to herself.

4. Tara was the one person through whom the First Slayer would speak, even though Buffy knew that Tara did not belong in and was not part of her dream (Restless). How could that happen? How could Tara enter another person's dream and yet not be part of that dream? Only by transcending.

5. Tara always understood everyone's pain and took that pain on herself- as she did for Xander ("It hurts" after he put his hand through the wall in The Body), and for Buffy (later in the same episode, when she told Buffy about her own loss and how sudden it was), and for Anya (when Xander and Willow were lost in the woods and Tara sent a tinkerbell light to guide them back home).

Tara was the moral voice for the Scoobies, in keeping with the bodhisattva's role in life. She helped people with pain, better than anyone. I will argue Tara in Buffy was a respresentation of Tara the deity. To the point of even being presented as Green Tara- when she told Anya that she would have to deal with her if Anya was going to persist in trying to force Willow to use magic.



I do not think her name was selected by chance, not in a program where names are important- Dawn, Faith, Glory, Harmony, Tara, etc.

Thank you, Rhiannon. I forgot to note that Tara the deity is also known as a virgin, a queen and a mother. With regard to being virginal, the Buddhist thought is not simply with regard to sex, though I believe that Tara was indeed a virgin in that regard, but with regard to being pure of heart, which our Tara most certainly was. Never did Tara allow anger to be her driving force; everything she did was done for love and usually for the love of her life, Willow. And our Tara was indeed a mother, to little Dawnie, after Joyce died. Indeed, Tara never abandoned Dawn, even as Willow did during her addition; Tara was committed to Dawn and for all intents and purposes was her mother, since Buffy had to be slayer and also was, for a time, dead. And who helped to bring Buffy back- Tara, though Willow was the main force. As to queen, this addresses leaderhsip. Tara always seemed to be a follower- but only on a close reading. In fact, Tara made the hard choices, not the easy ones, teh hardest of which which was to leave her lover in order to help her lover.



There is it- Tara was far deeper than people give her credit for. And gosh do I miss her! Y'hear that, Amber?

Guess I'll add my little anecdote to this fun thread. I moved recently to this fairly historic little town and was walking along Main St. yesterday when I came across this consignment shop. It's called Tara's, and it had THE single most hideous outfit I have ever laid eyes on in the display window!!! I stood outside that shop and laughed till I hurt! It was ssssooooooooo our Tara! Some flowing-floral-patterned-fringy-looking thing. I'm sure I won't be welcome in that store now that I've made a perfect ass out of myself in front of it. Gee, my loss!

Not at all- peaceful mindfulness, correct. Not wanting. That is our Tara- she was freed from many, though not all, desires. Her one serious desire was, of course, for Willow.

I dunno if this qualifies, but....



I was doing a work placement in a nursery about a year ago (I think) and the manager of the nursery was pregnant.



I was reading a Buffy magazine on my break and it had a picture of Amber in it, the manager's husband asked me who the girl in the picture was and I happened to say 'Amber Nicole Benson' (which was odd in its self 'cause usually i'd just say Amber Benson)



Anyway 6 months later the manager had the baby, I visited her in hospital and to my amazment the tag on the babies foot read 'Amber Nicole....'



Mini-Amber has blonde hair and blue eyes and she's just as gorgeous as her name sake.

I was at school one time, standing next to a girl named Leila, but that's not important. She looked EXACTLY like Amber, and I was talking to her, because I developed a huge crush on her, since she looked like Amber. Then one of my friends named TARA walked by, humming "Goodbye to you" and I started crying. I just started bawling. And Leila hugged me and asked me why I was crying. I just told her that it wasn't really that important, but I'd appriciate a little cuddling. So we cuddled for awhile. And she kissed my head a few times to try and get me to calm down... and... yeah.



Yeah. Leila was our lighting person for our plays. She used to act, but, well... she stopped. She sings well. I think she's related to Amber. I really do. Here's to you Leila,

The southside of Atlanta, the town of Jonesboro, is widely held to be the setting for "Tara" in GWTW. I went to high school in Jonesboro. My sister went to Tara elementary school, and we had to drive on Tara Blvd. to get there. We also have an area known as Amberwood nearby. How about that!

I'm in theatre tech and on friday we were going over different tools. There was this special tape and our teacher gave us a hint that it shares the name with a character from Buffy. I yelled out Willow when someone else said Spike and I realised I was totally wrong. This other girl I had kind of admired from afar came up to me after class and asked about being a buffy fan, and we talked about that. So I have Willow to thank for making a new friend

It's not so much an incident really. I discovered though that my full name is very similar to Amber's when I was reading her bio information somewhere and discovered we have the same middle name. My name is Allison Nicole Ben*** (last 3 letters edited for privacy; although, if my last name was Benson I would tell you because, dude...freaky). So every time I look at my driver's license or sign a check, somewhere in the back of my head I giggle like a silly, little, obsessive Amberholic. lol

great info on the goddess tara! she is indeed well revered and worship all over the world. it is no surprise that it was the name given to her, as she shares similar qualities with the goddess. i actually thought that they would take this path in the story line, after tara died, that it would be revealed that she was a goddess and wasn't dead , like what was shown. plus the thing with her mysterious mother and insufficient family background. i thought she would be given a choice to remain as a goddess or go back to her one true love. that never happened, though it wouldve been great if it did.

the goddess tara also takes the form of the willow, so no surprise there.

This isn't so much an incident as a realization of how screwed I am. I was in the Kitten chat yesterday afternoon and everyone was talking about meeting Amber. I have yet to do so. I turned to my best friend, since I was at her house, and asked her if she would go to a convention with me since if i meet Amber alone all I'll be able to say is "Uh..." and she said she would. Then she informed me that she'll walk right up to Amber and open with "So, you played a lesbian. Did that turn you on?" *bonks head against something* then she proceeded to tell me that once she got a response she would say "That's my friend Sara. She's too shy to talk to you since she thinks you're really hot and wants to see you naked. In case you're interested she's in room number 666 and I'm her roommate, the devil." The scary thing is, Nat would actually do this to me. She would walk right up to my favorite actress and completely embarass me. AND she would do it naked if given the chance. *Sigh*

it's not that much of an incident neither, just i was in another town yesterday, and of course i had to take the mackay road, and see the indications to the Tara Hall... just cool!



oh and last night, i dreamt that i was meeting amber,,,gosh i can't remember the last time i had a dream soooooo good!

i remember so many details, it's just...awwwww

it would have been better if it were true, but still what a way to start a day!!
