Could W/T steal the show?

Postby Urn of Osiris » Tue Aug 27, 2002 10:42 am

I am having this debate with a friend.

My statement was that Willow and Tara were stealing the show. After much conversation I wondered if Willow and Tara could have supported an entire series on their own.

My opinion is yes and from what I've read over at pens I tend to think the story possibilities are endless.

Just wanted to know what the opinion is here.

WILLOW: That's a work ethic! Buffy, you're developing a work ethic.

BUFFY: Oh, no. Do they make an ointment for that

Well they stole the show for me. I was a general BtVS fan and then they came along and then I found this board and the rest is history. I think they could have easily supported their own show, if Angel can (snore), why not them, well maybe because they are a lesbian couple, that does seem to be a problem no matter how much some people might want to deny it. But pretending we would live in a world where that would not be a problem then yes, I really think so, based on the endless amount of stories there are to tell. And I would believe that even I were not as shippy as I am. Really. Just look at Charmed, I mean I am not a big fan of it, so I am not trying to debate it merits or lack thereof, but it is about witches, movies are made about witches, there are plenty of exciting stories to tell if you love this particular genre, and then Pens is full of them.

Lovely thread btw. :)

As a fan of all things about witches and a W/T shipper, then hell yes!

Personally I thought a W/T show would have gone over fine. Others seem to think so as well given the amount of fiction in Pens and all the W/T fic sites (Extra Flamey, Wiccan Ways) not to mention the Amber-penned W/T comics.

I find them far more interesting than Spike, Xander or really even Buffy herself.

I just Love the W/T relationship. I fell in love with the character of Willow immediately after she walks away from the water fountain in Welcome to the hellmouth. I could so relate to feeling so small.

I agree that if Angel fodder can cross the air, they could have made wonderful statements about commitment and love by having a W/T series.

I suppose I'll just have to lose myself over at pens. :joss drops the ball yet again.

Hmmm. I'd put it this way--the characters of Willow and Tara could have been the basis for their own show, pretty easily imo.

I am in general agreement (of course) with the above posters. One question I have would involve the fact that the two of them are already together. Thus, you have no "Will they or won't they" sexual tension that is the basis for so many "couple" series (e.g. Moonlighting, Remington Steele, etc.) OTOH, McMillan and Wife and Hart to Hart did just fine with married couples as protagonists.

It would also depend upon the supporting characters, too. Let's face it, neither Buffy nor Angel would have been nearly as good without the supporting cast. So the same could be said of any series with W/T.

Titles, anyone?

Great idea Capt.

I have no idea what to call it though.

I personally think Dawn would have been a good addition. Lose Spike, but keep Anya and yes even Xander. Contrast the dysfunctional "het" relationship with Willow and Tara's normal one. How's that for busting up a cliche?

Here, I'll even throw the Spuffers a bone. Buffy and Spike get on his bike and ride off in the dark together as the new season opens.

Bring back Faith and you have the tension of who is in charge between Willow and Faith.

I know what to call it.

Oh my yes, W/T could certainly have a show of their own. Just look at all of the interesting storylines Chris Golden has come up with and the W/T comics. I'm sure they could easily be made into episodes. And some of the writers from Witchblade might be handy. I have to admit, their adeptness at readapting last season's wrap up finale for WB has impressed me.

Not only could but have over on Pens, even to the extent of rewriting the show to bring them together much earlier(What you think I'm going to pass up the chance for a shameless plug? :) )

I was already a Buffy fan. Already a Willow fan too. But Willow and Tara...well yeah, they stole the show for me. However, I'm betting that ME couldn't have come up with anything as wonderful as what's on Pens right now. And too often I've seen a good idea labored to death when shows have spin off series. I mean, don't get me wrong, Aly and Amber are wonderful actresses, but one of the things that made Buffy for me (when it was still great, that is) was the ensemble performance. I just wish ME would have realised that.

I don't know if they could have "stolen the show," but I definitely think that Joss's idea of continuing the series with "Dawn the Vampire Slayer" would have had a much better chance of success if Willow, Tara and Dawn had been able to form the "family unit" at the center of the show. Joss blew his best chance for continued success when he killed Tara off.

Of course I think W/T could support their own show and the Buffyverse obviously is fertile ground for putting together a wonderful ensemble cast. Toss in 2 or 3 vengence/justice demons, Whistler, a Council of Watcher Witches back in Merry Ol' who just don't get W/T's way of doing things, sweeps appearances by Faith and Anya, pattern the second season (after we've become acquainted with the supporting cast in season 1) on Answering Darkness w/the Trickster as the Big Bad. . . it would be grand.

I have to say though, if allowed to choose, I would put them on cable so more explicit scenes and storylines could be explored and I would limit them to 13 episodes, like the Sopranos, both to maintain quality to give AH and AB more time for other projects.

Need a title? I'd go with "The Wonder Wiccas":D .

Since someone brought up "Witchblade" above, I watched the season finale and didn't understand it at all:( . Maybe this series is just too "abstruse" for me......

Darn tootin'

I was hooked the instant Aly came on the screen in the first episode. I never really cared for Buffy. Willow has ALWAYS been the main attraction for me. I cried when she cried and laughed when she laughed. I watched her fall in love for the first time and it was so incredibly sweet, but later in S4 when the real thing came along, my heart soared. I adore Willow and Tara!

So, for me personally, no question, they could carry a show!

Hells yes they could soo steal the show! If Angel could do it, I think Willow and Tara could do it! But it wont get boring like Angel! If they did that, they would be the highest rated show on whatever network they would go on!! ;)

I have always wanted them to fill in the background story for Tara. There is an entire season of eps on that alone. What a waste to destroy such strong characters. I totally agree the a S8 with W/T and D would totally work.

Oh yes I loved the Buffy show with it's ensemble yes, but that show is obviously played out. To create more drama the creator felt character deaths were the only solution.

I wouldn't think of w/t spin off as necessarily inferior because it is a spin off. When you think of Laverne and Shirley you don't necessarily think of Happy Days. When you think of Frasier, you don't think of Cheers. The shows would need different tone.

Yes couples shows can be successful, I loved Heart to Heart. The chemistry they had made it a joy to watch. You would have to create a different ensemble for them. I agree Dawn would have been a nice addition for them. I think certainly they would need to leave Sunnydale/

I think everyone is forgetting the x-files along the tension of will they or won't they. I mean, Mulder and Scully stole the cake, of course it all whent to hell in a handbasket after doggert and others came on, but still...

*wonders if anymore analogies could have gone into those few sentances...

And also series tension wise, Xena and Gabrielle. It was never stated till the end if they were anything more then friends, and even then it was kind of between the lines.

Oh and for a Willow and Tara show? If they can support a comic, they can support a tv show. Look at everything else that has, not just cartoon wise.

Tara nodded in agreement "She has magic fingers." Then, as though the words had just echoed back to her and sounded not at all right, she perked up and glanced around at the others. "On the keyboard."

ABSOLUTELY!!!

Willow & Tara have stolen my heart... how could their love not steal the show?? :O) My partner & I wait breathlessly for every one of their adventures... we were, afterall, only introduced to the Buffy saga this summer (on 5 different channels)... and I can't stand to know that after the kiss we saw tonight on Entropy... and knowing the power that both characters posess... that their incredibleness (is that a word? oh who cares...) individually and together will be ending for me, too, in just one more episode. They defintely could even make their own show I think.

Oh yes, they definitely stole the show for me. I too, have been a fan of the show since the beginning of Buffy. But, when Willow and Tara found each other.....it made it like.....200% better!! :clap

I think that Willow and Tara could have a show of their own. Aly and Amber are incredible and I think it would be soooo great to see a show based on just these two. Maybe we could actually see a wedding or something like that take place. :D I'm all for a Willow/Tara tv show. or even a movie. A movie would be good too!!!!
