Tara Maclay's Guide to Tarot

Postby magicdanw » Wed Aug 26, 2009 1:48 pm

Sorry to disappoint, but I haven't found Tara Maclay's Guide to Tarot yet :P It would be awesome if someone wrote it though!

Does anyone on the board study/practice Tarot? I'm very interested but have no idea where to begin. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I have a pretty deck, but I can't do much except play solitaire with it ;-)

Spirit&Destiny Magazine has a feature every month focusing on different tarot cards and their meaning ect.
The magazine also has a website and can give you info on lots of wicca stuff including books ect.

My first (and the easyest deck to start with in my opinion) is the Rider Waite deck. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider-Waite_tarot_deck
I've been reading Tarot cards for a few years now and I still have a long way to go until I'm confident with them. The best advice I can give you is take a while to look at each card individually, every detail is put there for a reason and I find that trusting how you see each card and how you read into it is a huge step in the right direction. There are tons and tons of books out there that are guids to the Tarot but my favourite one, and the one I swear by is 'Tarot for Today' by Joanna Watters. It deals specifically with Rider Waite deck, but it can still be used to interpret other decks. It's not confusing and very easy to read.

Don't push too hard to figure out how to read the Tarot, take your time and enjoy it. You'll be suprised how easy it is once you've really looked at the cards. Something that helped me out when I started to learn the Tarot was, before you even look at a book's definition of each card, look at them yourself and write down what each card means for you, if only the major arcana, you may suprise yourself by how well you read into it yourself. It's all there on the card. Trust yourself and you instincts.

I hope that helps. Enjoy them, they taught me loads!
Be safe. Be happy. XxXxXx

Wishing Peace, light and love to everyone.
