Welp, just got done watching Strictly Sexual and I'm gonna have to say that it was amazing! A few moments I had to take a breather (with a cold shower) but it was great! For me, it was a little of a shocker. Don't wanna say why but I think you all will know.

Anyhoo, definitely worth the 1 hour and 40 minutes!!!! =)

Looks like the shipping date for pre-orders has been pushed back to 24th Feb now. :-(

I ran through the checkout process for kicks and giggles and was DELIGHTED to see a whole bunch of countries listed, and even special info about requirements for addresses in Australia! Then, the next page: "We ship anywhere in the continental United States and to Canada. … You are not within the shipping area." WTF?!?

Not "we can't ship this particular title", just "we don't ship where you are". Yet their OWN shopping cart has a WHOLE BUNCH OF NON-US DESTINATIONS listed.

This is the quintessential definition of 'EPIC FAIL!' Grrrr!

So anyway, now that my rant is done... would any kind kitten who DOES happen to live in the permitted zone be prepared to reship a copy to me here in Australia? Pretty pleeeease? *bats eyelashes winningly*

She doesn't "seem like the type" to me but I don't know, y'know, but given the topic of the film and certain well-established Hollywood cliches, not surprised it was filmed that way.

I adore watch Amber in another roles, so different from our Tara, she´s such an amazing actress...

but she knows... Tara is THE character, period... I know plenty of Buffy´s fans who become fans just because of her!

Many sex comedies in Hollywood today are just excuses for crass and childish jokes and excessive nudity. Now in and of itself this can be fine but every now and again isn't it nice to know that someone is actually dealing with the subject of sex and relationships, and how we can often mix and misunderstand our sexual and emotional needs, and doing so in an honest, sexy, tender, smart and funny way. This is that film.

The plot is fairly simple. Two out of work men are propositioned and bedded by two women who mistake them for male prostitutes. From there a "business arrangement" is worked out but this is really the bedrock with which to look at themes of sexual and emotional needs and how we often can mistake one for the other, or use one to hide from the other.

The acting is first rate from all concerned. I will admit to being a fan of Amber benson and will say that I think this is one of ehr best performances as her character could have been a cold and callous one but she added subtle layers that gave her huge depth and turned her into a sympathetic character indeed.

The actors are helped by a Director who is interested in character and emotion rather than cheap titllation (in fact for all the sex there is no female nudity and the men only ever appear topless at most). The script similarly crackles with wit, but underlies it with genuine emotion rather than sentiment, and its observations over the male/female dynamic are well-judged.

For anyone who can view a region 1 film, this is definitely worth your time and money. Not some cheap and sappy rom-com but a genuinely moving and funny romantic comedy-drama.

I would add that the film is a very mature piece rather than the childish sex comedies of something like American Pie. Whilst this film may sadly will not achieve the same level of recognition as AP, it is undeniably a better work on all levels.

She doesn't seem to be in it for the money as much as the work and I like that about her. Unlike other Buffy alumni one might mention, Amber seems refreshingly unmaterialistic.

that´s my exactly reaction when I saw this movie... I´m still amazed by her perfomance on this piece ^^

I finally got to watch this--got it from Netflix, then it sat on top of the tv for 2 days due to other time commitments! But, I watched it yesterday and while I'm not going to write a full review, I do want to comment on a couple of things. One, I really liked the friendships between the two women and the two men. They each have their disagreements, but they make up and their friendship is never in jeopardy, despite the the conflicts and changes around them. Second, the acting really is top notch from everyone. There was never a moment where I was tempted to wander away and get a snack or something, just waiting for Amber's scenes. Indeed, there were several scenes that I rewatched (and not just the bouncy ones *g*).
Much like 'Race You to the Bottom' there's not an entirely happy ending, but not one of gloom and doom either.
And okay, just to admit a bit of shallowness on my part, Amber is frelling HOT!
This is something I will probably buy at some point.
