New Joss Profile/Interview (with small W/T mention)

Postby BBOvenGuy » Mon Mar 25, 2002 12:22 pm

This one comes to us from The LA Times. You can go there to read the whole thing. Here's the excerpt that talks about W/T:

quote:
"Buffy" has also pushed boundaries with story lines in the 8 p.m. time slot exploring everything from sex between high schoolers to a young lesbian couple (when the characters went off to college and Hannigan's Willow met Benson's Tara). Benson didn't know the characters would become romantically involved and share an on-screen kiss and the same bed in their dorm room when she accepted the part.

"I was nervous about doing it; I felt it had to be portrayed correctly," Benson said. "Joss took us aside, and we talked about it. He has really taken the high road. There's nothing gratuitous about it."

There was also this (not all that spoilery) mention of something for the finale:

quote:
On the set of the 100th episode, Whedon spent roughly six hours working on a seven-minute emotionally charged scene in Giles' magic shop that included all the principal cast members. At one point, he took Head aside for some refining.

"When he gives you a note, it's like someone switches on a little lightbulb," Head said later. "It's lovely working for somebody as specific as he is. He can marginally, fractionally change something, and make it better."

There's also a lot of talk about next year's musical episode, and also an interesting comment from UPN's President, in which he says it's more likely UPN will change to fit Buffy rather than Buffy changing to fit UPN.

All in all, a really good article! Woo-hoo!

Remember the Kitten Board Mantras:

"Joss is nuts about Tara, Willow/Tara and Amber!"

"Willow and Tara are the most romantic couple on the show, and that's exactly how Joss is treating them."

Looking forward to that promised musical ep and season with much anticipation.

quote:
A splash of "Rent," maybe some tap shoes, lots of feeling. Just right, Whedon hopes, for year six of what he describes as "one of the corniest and most overtly romantic series on TV."

Who's going wear those tap shoes??

Edit:
I'm assuming that the emotionally charged 7 minutes in the Magic Box is that same scene in which they had to light around Amber while she made her way in slumberland as previously mentioned in a earlier interview?

I'm thinking that since this is (a) the season finale, (b) the 100th episode and (c) the last episode before the move to UPN, we might see a bunch of articles and interviews over the next two or three days. Most are likely to have micro-spoilers and mini-spoilers for "The Gift," too, which could make up a little for our lack of wild feed today.

Thanks for posting that article Bob

I love the line about Buffy changing UPN and not the other way around.

Thanks for the article Bob. I'm glad to hear that the musical is still a go and UPN isn't going to try and change Buffy.

It was in one of Amber's interviews where she was talking about shooting [i:7a9f932da4]Buffy[/i:7a9f932da4] and [i:7a9f932da4]Chance[/i:7a9f932da4] at the same time.

Hey, in those comfy jammies, who can blame her?

There are thousands of Web sites dedicated to "Buffy," where fans regularly talk in chat rooms about how the show has touched their lives.

Are there? *looks around* Oh yeah...so there are....

Ok I am very excited over this musical. First you have Joss' comment about the show being one of the most overtly romantic shows then you have this stuff
quote:
It seems natural to Whedon that a series about a group of outsiders should wear its square-peg-round-hole status like a badge of honor. "I don't say, 'How can I shock people?' 'How can I be unconventional?' " said the 36-year-old Whedon. "I think about doing something I haven't done before. In this case, it'll be like a classic old musical where the songs help tell the story. And people will sing things that they wouldn't say."

Now this I can't wait to hear. I don't think I am being to optimistic when I say I expect a song between W/T!

After reading that, I have no doubt xita, that W/T will sing a song to each other and not just a any song but a love song *sigh*

Xita I definitely think you'll see a song between Willow and Tara and don't be surprised if it's a love song. This musical episode sounds awesome, although I have to admit that next to a Willow/Tara duet I want to see our girls do a rock number with Giles.

Great article. Did anyone else catch the reference to "no cliffhanger" in the season finale, because Joss hates them?

Yay, I say, YAY!!!!

Ooh great article, thanks Bob!
I cannot WAIT for the musical! Thats just what I've been dying to see, Anya busting out into song. I cant easily imagine W/T singing...which is really surprising since weve all heard Amber sing already! Despite my unfortunate inability to imagine the sweetsweet scene of Willow and Tara musically professing their love for one another, I can't wait to see it happen! If, that is, if it happens. *crosses fingers*

Bob, I owe you one for making me read this thread and go tearing out to snag today's Calendar section off the front porch, nearly twisting my ankle in the process.

No, seriously, thanks for the heads-up. It's a great article and there's even a cute sight of half of Alyson's face in one of the photos.
