Buffy's future undecided?




With only one more season of Buffy remaining in her contract, talk is turning to Sarah Michelle Gellar's future on the show.

In a brand new interview for the Internet Movie Database, Sarah has been discussing her plans beyond Season Seven.

"We're definitely going to do one more season according to our contract," said Sarah, "and then we're all going to take a look at where we stand. I certainly haven't made up my mind one way or the other what I'm going to do.

"I enjoy the work and I think the story lines have become more and more interesting, and that's the most important thing for me - to make sure we aren't repeating ourselves and allowing Buffy and the other characters to evolve in serious ways that most series never allow. That's why I'm quite proud of Buffy and what we've achieved."

Sarah, who celebrated her birthday yesterday, also notes that playing a character with such intense emotional problems can take its toll. "It's also psychologically taxing because you have to put yourself into the head of this girl who is constantly being threatened and trying to define some kind of identity and life for herself.

"That might sound silly, but Buffy has a lot of fine edges and I think that's why people appreciate her and her struggle."

I expect how good Season 7 is would make a lot of difference, or how much ME think the fans want another season. The current season hasn't seemed very closurey to me at all. Though, then again, they [i:04071273de] are[/i:04071273de] getting to the roots of what makes the Scoobies tick emotionally, admittedly through a process of destruction.

Of course there's always the other big question that comes up when a star's contract is up: how much? Both Sarah and Aly have viable movie careers and I can't see how they could even contemplate a show without them. It could come down to whether the budget can afford to pay them what they're worth. Then again, Gillian Anderson, who also has had some good movie roles, stayed with X-Files even after it jumped the shark, and BtVS is nowhere close to that. In fact it's shown its quality by getting better. How ofter does that happen?

I totally agree with you Garfield. Making the show taxing? Aw, poor dearies, surrounded by their crew and lights and cameras and things. We only get what's saved in the camera. No suspension of disbelief there love.
