Spiral Revisited

Postby Scout » Sun Mar 24, 2002 4:24 am

They reran Spiral tonight. Since hearing that Aly hates learning spells in foreign languages, I couldnt help but notice that she had to learn a spell in Russian for this episode. Poor Aly! I wonder why Russian?

After all the Spike/scooby bonding that went on in these last three eps, it makes you wonder how the gang will treat Spike at the beginning of next season and how much of a scooby he will become. Also, Willow and Anya had quite a bit of bonding in these eps; it will be interesting to see what kind of friendship they have in the next season, as well.

Some cut lines: Taras Why dont you shimmer? That would have been a cute scene, but I liked that they didnt have Willow apologize to Buffy for Tara leaking that Dawn was the key. She shouldnt have to apologize Tara gave herself up for Dawn. Also, the scene where Willows nose bled again was cut, but I dont know if that would have really added anything to our understanding of Wills use of the dark magicks.

Side note: they showed a preview for "American Pie 2" during Spiral. Wont be long now.

The RV chase is my favorite fight scene of the season, and one of my favorites in the entire series. So what if it's silly to think the horses could keep up with an RV? Of all the things we've seen on [i:4371674d3e]Buffy[/i:4371674d3e], is this one really outside our suspension of disbelief?

The sight of all those desert roads reminds me of driving around all the Joshua Trees in the dark with Xita, looking for the shoot. We never did see any scenes from the hotel set they were using when we drove past them. I wonder if they were using the hotel for the back room of the gas station. Hmph...

Bob: I wasn't too thrown by the horses' speed. There was at least one line about the absolute lack of oomph to the RV's engine.

And speaking of horses, the whole "Horseys!" exchange, up to Buffy's aside to Giles, is one of the absolute classics on this show.

Lots of fun, all around. Too bad "WoTW" broke the momentum too much between this one and "The Gift".

Just my crappy luck. The one episode that I missed origanlly WELL it looks like I missed it again. My luck is so tip-a-frickin-cal! I am soo upset so sorry for venting. The one day my VCR doesn't record. Not fair!

What happened The first Sun they aired it was Drac. VS. Buffy, then the Real Me, the Replacements. Where is the forth ep? Not Spiral...I needed that one.

Okay I'm done venting and will go back to pouting.

Seeing "Spiral" again was a little tough for me, I absolutely hated to see Tara like that it broke my heart, and when Tara was freaking out and Willow was trying to calm her down and she looked at Buffy and said that they had to do something and that Tara couldn't stay like that I finally broke down and cried. I said this on another board and I'll say it here: I HATE GLORY.

I know that this post sounds kinda wimpy but seeing Tara like hurt soooo much, I'm not looking forward to "Tough Love".

Yeah, I needed to tape "Out of My Mind," too. So much for showing them in order. BTW, that's one mean smilie! I think it captures your mood perfectly!

Lonewolf: You're right, "Spiral" was hard and "Tough Love" is even harder. Although "Tough Love" has some of my all-time favorite scenes/lines, I still find it hard to go back and watch it.

The thing I loved about this ep is that Willow and Tara were all over one another and their relationship was very solid. When Willow is looking after her, taking care of her girl, I think that's when I enjoy them the most.

It would be much better Ruth if they could do that more when Tara isnt brain damaged. We will have to wait til next season.

I agree mucifer, but I think in some ways, it was a possible segue into us seeing more physical affection between them.

I loved Spiral, it was definitely in my top 5 eps last season!

I agree Ruth, watching Willow taking care of Tara did my old cynical heart so much good, I know it was under terrible circumstances, but like I've said before, although TL was incredibly painful, we did get a lot of relationship affirming goodness out of it.
And yes, I'll be interested to see if they allow more touchy feely stuff next year, I said in the recent thread about the sex scene that I would settle for them just acting like a regular couple in love, you know holding hands, kissing each other hello and goodbye, and yeah showing them in bed together, even if it's just talking about stuff, just them being a normal happy couple, that would do me!

I'd love 'Spiral' more if my copy wasn't taped off Sky when they happned to have crappy sound problems... it's watchable, if you have the volume right up!

I hated seeing Tara like that too, but Ruths right about the physical affection, it's just a shame that they could only do it asa part of a 'willow looking after Tara' thing, not in general. Hopefully tho, this has paved the way for more of the same (minus the brain sucking) next season. And hey, her being brain sucked meant she lead the Scoobies to Glory (who, BTW i didn't actually hate... i quite liked her... she was funny, and a hell of alot cuter than the master and the mayor!) and enabled Willow to do that tres cool brain sucking thing to Glory to get Tara back. You always knew that she'd come back, just like you always knew Dawn'd be ok. Now Buffy, *that* was a surprise!

Phew! I almost [i:09bf7657f2]missed[/i:09bf7657f2] Spiral, because bloody channel 7 decided to show Buffy 1/2 an hour earlier than usual. It was just lucky that I had the TV on at the time.

It has to be one of my favorite episodes. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Annoying though - half way throught the ep, I got a phone call! The Silver Lining: it was about a horror film being shot by some uni students that requires 4 victims. I get killed tomorrow.

I just love that whole scene in the RV. Besides the "Horsies!" "Don't hit the horsies!" "Aim for the horsies." part, I like when Tara's playing with the blinds and zaps Spike.. James is so great, and even Spike understands Tara doesn't know what she's doing. Amber was so good in these episodes it was heartbreaking. But I liked watching Willow take care of Tara, since a lot of the time it seemed like we saw more of the opposite, before the brain suckage. I really think it made Willow realize just how much Tara means to her.

Anyway.. I was never big on the whole Knights thing and there are still some holes there imo, but the battle scene where they're attacking the RV is great. And I still feel so bad for Buffy watching these eps. She's just at the end of her rope.

I saw 'Spiral' for the first time last night, but i have to say i found it a little *ahem* boring. But i did love the "horsies" line that Tara said. I just kept thinking to myself "isn't that just the cutest thing ever?!". And the RV fight scene was pretty cool too.

In other related news I'm really happy that the show has now moved to 9.30pm (from 10.30pm) down here and it's being advertised more too. And i can't believe we actually got a promo for next week's episode! That hasn't happened since early season 2. Rejoice!

Yay for Aussie kitties I was mucho pleased with what we got last night. Buffy moving to an earlier time slot *and* previews back Sure the previews might not seem like much but without them when the episode ends you just feel... bleh when is the next one. But now we can get excited with scenes for the next week Congrats Channel 7, try not to screw it up now.

I loved Spiral, possibly more then Tough Love. Poor Buffy was just against impossible odds and it showed in the end. I really felt for her I was liking Glory with this episode though, the truck hitting her was funny Killing the knight General was just a cool unexpected move (for me anyway) and then just decimating the whole army outside.... I was scared....

Also for those worried Dark Angel would take Buffy's spot we can be glad now It's gonna be on Thursday's I think at 8.30. Thank god, two late nights a week is enough for me....

I saw Spiral at a friend's house last nite after the Mayor bought us dinner.

It was great - finally I got to watch Buffy with some other humans. *sigh* and almost as obsessed as me! Anita has posters of the scoobs everywhere in her house. I went into the bathroom and was met by Aly. what's she doing in there, I wonder?... hehehehe... *sigh again*

Yeah and then I saw it again this morning. Coz I taped it. It was a lil too angsty, but I'm sure it'll be better as part of Foxtel's S5 Slayerfest (a whole season end-to-end over one weekend)

I loved the frypan scenes. LOL!! And the Xander-Spike dialogue in the gas station... absolute classics. I just don't understand why no one (Ben or Dawn) said anything about the Ben-having-Glory-inside-him thing. A minor detail they forgot to mention?? Surely Dawn remembered from the hospital... ?? Will someone please either hypothesise or clue me in with the truth?

Cheers.

P.S. Yay! Buffy is on 1 hour earlier for the next 2 weeks. But what a bummer, I have my HSC Drama Group Performance on during The Gift. I'll have to tape it. And I'll DIE if the tape stuffs up!

That gets explained at the beginning of "The Weight of the World," Wolfix.

Spoilers for TWOTW to follow

Basically, it's part of the spell binding Ben and Glory together. Any living human being who witnesses the transformation forgets about it soon afterward. (Sort of like the spell comes in with a built-in memory-erasing thing like Men in Black!) Spike, not being alive, is immune to this, and he puts it all together when he asks if anyone's worried about Ben turning back into Glory, and gets a bunch of blank looks in response.

Hmmm... no more tears this week, like with last weeks episode of Tough Love (who wouldn't cry in this one, honestly), but geez - the ending completely flips you out huh. When they all walk outside and like the entire army is dead, within seconds. Scary. What's MORE scary is Buffy's like complete non-reaction to it all. That's freaky. I realise it's like shock (with all the stuff that's happened to her this year, can anyone blame the poor sod?) but, wooo... Buffy, like that. My heart broke for Willow, and was saddened when I saw Tara again. My heart absolutely wept, even if I didn't.

Now, what's all this talk about a look??? I must go back and watch it!!!

And more importantly, who in Australia saw this at 10pm?!?!?!? I had to wait until 11:10pm last night! I was buggered!! I only had 46 minutes of tape left on the tape I wanted to finish, and so couldn't go to bed, and had to edit ads (but who would want ads on there anyway...).. but that's besides the point!!

This ep is such a WOW ep leading up to the last two episodes of season 5 (that was the third last, wasn't it?). Total suspence, tell ya what - I'm scared stiff for poor Dawn.

And I spent the ENTIRE, like 16 minutes, of the last part of the episode yelling at the screen, trying to get someone to kill Ben. It's such a simple solution - but it's like there's a mind-thingy going on; when Glory overcomes Ben, she, like, wipes the memory of it from the person who witnessed it.

Hmm... That's just me though...

Caity, who has VERY exciting news happening (Yes, I will share)
