Elton John to Receive Legend Award on "2001 RADIO MUSIC AWARDS" (10/26/01)

Sir Elton John has been named the winner of the "2001 Radio Music Awards'" special Legend Award. Tribute will be paid to the international singer, songwriter and performer at the "2001 Radio Music Awards," telecast live from the Aladdin Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 (9:00-11:00 p.m.), on the ABC Television Network.

The Legend Award is presented to an individual or group for their body of work and for their significant contributions to the music industry. Dr. Dre was the recipient of last year's award.

In addition to The Legend Award, eight other awards will be handed out on the two-hour special, acknowledging the achievements of recording artists and radio personalities in the musical formats of Top 40/Pop radio, Pop Alternative radio, Hip Hop/Rhythmic radio, Alternative/Rock radio and Country radio.

To date, confirmed performers and presenters include Mick Jagger, Robert Downey Jr., Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Sugar Ray, Jay-Z, Afroman, Alyson Hannigan, India Arie, Lil' Romeo, Master P, Rascal Flatts, Bell Biv DeVoe, Carson Daly, Christina Aguilera, Christina Milian, Jessica Simpson, Lifehouse, Snoop Dogg and Nelly Furtado.

In addition to the radio air play nominated awards, categories for Most Requested Artist and Most Requested Song of the year will be voted on by radio listeners.

The executive producers for the "2001 Radio Music Awards" are Anthony Eaton, three-time Grammy-winner in the long-form video category; Paul Joseph, executive producer, co-creator of the "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40" and Grammy- nominated producer; and Von Freeman, vice president of marketing, Clear Channel Communications, Los Angeles, and three-time Billboard magazine and three-time Radio and Records magazine Marketing Executive of the Year. The special will be produced by Tall Pony Productions

Thanks for the heads up Brian. I actually went out for dinner tonight and when I got back I put the music awards on just for background. Luckily, I saw Aly. And my, there were choruses of 'She's cute' resounding around the apartment.

Now, it's likely I'm the only one thinking this, but is anyone else getting just a little tired of how freely the word "lesbian" gets bandied about every time Aly makes a public appearance. I mean I think it's great, really really great, that she's so comfortable talking about it...but what bothers me is that the person she's talking to is inevitably a guy and it always seems to create this "heh heh heh...wink wink nudge nudge" kind of atmosphere. The W/T relationship is sacred to me, as I'm sure it is to all Kitties, and I don't like to see it becoming fodder for the libidinous imaginations of sweaty-palmed boys.

So I'm the only one thinking that, right?

Anyway, I got to see Aly and I didn't have to sit through Elton John to do it, so I'm pretty happy.

Ya know, I'm so used to guys losing their minds over the idea of two women together that it hardly fazes me anymore. Which isn't to say that it doesn't ever get annoying, but still... I try to be gracious about it, I mean... after all... I'm lucky. I actually get to BE a lesbian. And HAVE lesbian sex (in theory at least, if I ever have a girlfriend again, ha ha). And all those poor boys only get to fantasize. Bwahaha. Poor, poor boys.
