So I'm sure it is Monday for some kitties. I 'm sure that Willow and Tara are avid readers, and with all the book recomendation threads, I came up with the question of the day.

Willow and Tara's Favourite Books.

personally, I think Tara's is Wuthering Heights, with all the romance, tragedy and soulmate ideals I think it suits her.

Willow, The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

And she read the occasional Dean Koontz book on the sly. But only the real good ones like that one with the dog who was really smart.

Tara strikes me as a [i:33c289a2de] Mists of Avalon[/i:33c289a2de] type. And she's probably read all the lesbian classics starting right with [i:33c289a2de] The Well of Loneliness[/i:33c289a2de].

I bet Tara loves [i:9263f23307] Watership Down[/i:9263f23307] and has read it several times. And I bet she cried like a baby when she read [i:9263f23307] The White Bone[/i:9263f23307] by Barbara Gowdy, which is basically [i:9263f23307] Watership Down[/i:9263f23307] but with elephants.

As for Willow, I bet she supplements her sci-fi-type stuff (yeah, she cried when Douglas Adams died) with a healthy dose of Amy Tan novels. (They touch her especially because of her issues with her mother, which may exist only in my head.)

I so love the image of the two of them sitting in bed reading and playing footsie under the covers. Please tell me one or both of them would be wearing [i:9263f23307] glasses[/i:9263f23307]. Naturally, they often have difficulty concentrating on their reading and the footsie takes on a life of its own and is it possible for me to contemplate them doing [i:9263f23307] anything[/i:9263f23307] that doesn't segue into smut?

I'm betting Tara is a closet Harry Potter fan. Willow teases her about it, because they don't do anything like REAL magic, but Tara likes the characters and story anyway. And that they're British.

Very cool, [b:8258df0e6d] Autumn[/b:8258df0e6d]. How could Tara resist? For her 13th birthday, her mother gave her a battered old copy that she had gotten at a library sale. It was so well-read and bent and torn and taped back together again, it reminded Tara of the Velveteen Rabbit. After racing through her chores, she spent many warm afternoons reading it in the hay loft of their barn with a purry kitty curled up on her belly. So, not only does she love the story, but re-reading it pulls up lots of happy memories for her. (Okay, that's total fic there, but still. That's how I see it.)

I did not much care for the movie, but I saw it year and years ago. The movie in my head was always better. And I've read it probably 7 times over the years myself. But then I'm old.

I saw "Life of Somthing Like It" and "Jason X" today(Sunday). I recommend seeing Life... it was a great movie. AJ is amazing as always.
Jason X on the other hand, stay far far away from that one.

As for the daily question, hmm books? Can't answer that one as I'm not much of a reader so I'll agree with Kalita. I can so see Tara hiding the fact that she's a Harry Potter fan. Seems like something Tara would do.

Of course Tara read "Mists", she found it in her home towns small library and sat in the corner and read for hours until her parent came looking for her.

Willow has read everything. But she loved "Hitchhikers" and "The Hobbit". I bet she was up on all sorts of myths and legends before that as well.

(The coolest thing about [i:24194ea47d] FPS[/i:24194ea47d] is that there's no plasma sucking at all in the whole movie! In fact, the picture on the box, which is definitely of plasma sucking, depicts a scene that isn't even in the movie!)

Okay, wait. Stop looking at me like that. At least I'm not talking about my many fetishes.

Whoa! What an early thread, but perfect for describing my trip I just took. I was able to read four bookd while I was there and could have read more if I didn't get drunk every night.

It's nice to be back to civilization. I don't think I could have gone much longer without internet access. The no cable was bad enough.

I have a thing for kids books *shrug* So I'm going to go with "The Hero and the Crown" for Willow ... it's a Newbery Award Winner, and I wouldn't be surprised if none of you have ever heard of it *G* Anyway, it's about this red-headed princess who kills dragons. It's kinda' cool.

Tara loves "The Giving Tree". But she cries every time she reads it.

If anyone is looking for something similar to the earlier Friday installments you'll be sadly let down. The writers do something at the end that totally hit the last nail in it's coffin, but I won't spoil it for the rest of you.
Oh and the score is horrible. Almost as bad as Mission to Mars'.

I'm not sure what they would like to read but I just thought I share a couple books that I love.

Fall On Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald, it's a wonderful novel, I love the last few chapters especially.

Also her play GOODNIGHT DESDEMONA(GOOD MORNING JULIET).

I vote for Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising" sequence, as well as Edward Orma----- (his name is SO hard to spell!) "David and the Phoenix" (which has been rereleased!!!), probably for Tara. For Willow, yes of course Hitchhiker's and maybe the Friends Forever books. You'd prolly have to be my age to remember those tho. I'm a young'en. I bet they'd both love a book I just read... Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle which is really really cool. Of course, Common Reader has pushed me towards a lot of cool books.

Because the [i:8cd3ceb733] FPS[/i:8cd3ceb733] love has spread 'round the world, wrapping all of humanity in it's sucky arms. Yes, it is very cool. The sfx alone are worth the nine bucks. (Although I paid considerably more for it and it is worth every penny.)

One of my other favorite movies is [i:8cd3ceb733] Gates of Hell[/i:8cd3ceb733] because, well, because it's so craptastic. But also because the scene where the girl vomits up her own intestines was done by feeding her intact goat intestines, which she then vomited. I could never not love such a movie.

Um. Hey! That was probably entirely too disgusting for the Kitties, huh? I'm sorry. I said I was a freak!

In other news, all this talk of children's books and Newberry winners and such reminds me of the fond memories I have of reading [i:8cd3ceb733] Island of the Blue Dolphins[/i:8cd3ceb733] and my absolute favorite children's books of all time: [i:8cd3ceb733] The Three Investigators[/i:8cd3ceb733] series. Hardly anyone I know remembers [i:8cd3ceb733] The Three Investigators[/i:8cd3ceb733], but I bet Willow does.

Well I too see tara as the Bronte type. Classical angast riden romances and classical courtly dramas.

Willow I have always seen as a SF fan, if for no other reason than it complets her geekdom status. I see her reading Cherrhy, Bradley and other strong female writers.

Edited to add: Oh yeah The Three Investigators I loved those books, and I too am sure Willow loved them as well.While on the subject of childrens books. I also loved (and am sure our girls would have read), The Lloyd Alexander "The Chronicles of Prydrian" books, "the Book of Three' et al. as well as A Winrkle in Time, and "The Chronicles of Narnia"

Willow probably into the sci-fi thing - greg bear or something like that - or maybe even Tom Clancy/Jeffrey Archer type thrillers?? And maybe when she was at high school - I could see her having a mini-crush on Alex, from the Alex quartet of books by Tessa Duder....I'd think she'd identify with her a little..
