Fanfic help thread...

i've asked tons of silly questions before but here is another one. is Buffy's name really Elizabeth? and why/how does anya go from being anya emmerson to jenkins? i know, they are silly.

maybe if anyone else has questions regarding buffyverse for fics we could have a thread like this that answers questions. i know i'd find that helpful.

i think there was one a while back but i cant find it anymore. maybe i'm just spazzy and need to sleep.

Yup, Buffy's name is Elizabeth Anne. I know that Anya's last name in the Yearbook was Emmerson, but she used Jenkins in an ep... so I would, I supose, go with Jenkins these days! Until she decides to use another... which I'm sure, for some reason, she will.

SFA: You sure about the 'Elizabeth' bit? I know a lot of people quote it, but I've never heard of a canon source for that name.

Remember, her tombstone reads "Buffy Anne Summers". If she had had an 'official' first name I'm sure that's what would be there.

I can remember someone saying it was Elizabeth. Possibly Joyce. Something about Buffy couldn't say Elizabeth so it became Buffy. I just can't remember what ep it was. Grr...work brain work!

In the real world the name 'Buffy' is short for Elizabeth. The Queen Mother was called that as a child, and some people try to call me it but I object to it rather violently I've never heard of a canon source whcih says Buffy's real name is Elizabeth. In 'Something Blue' Buffy says "Hey, my mother gave me that name." Also, from various sources in Season 1 it became clear that she was known as Buffy on the school computer systems. I think it's likely that her full name is Buffy, not Elizabeth.

As for Anya, 'The Watcher's Guide' says her name is Emerson. I think she said Jenkins in Checkpoint to make herself sound more American. Emerson sounds kind of Scandinavian to me. I wouldn't quibble about it though, you could get away with using either.

so it's half and half on elizabeth... xander's real name is alexander, right? hehe... being silly.

Now i'm going to have to go search through all the shows until i find the reference. i know i heard it somewhere, it seems like P. Flutie or Snyder said it, maybe reading off her transcript. I'm sure it's canon, though. It's turned up in a lot of places, including a TV guide trivia quiz.

I've always liked the name Elizabeth, partly because it has more nickname possibilities than any other name. I have a niece called Lizzy, but she could just as well be Elly, Lisa, Libby, Betty, Betsy, Bits, Bess, or any of a dozen other nicknames. In the early 1900's even Binky and Boopsie(!) were popular.

No she's definitely Elizabeth Ann Summers. Don't know where I heard it but I know it's true. I think Joyce said it once.

I always understood that her actual name was Elizabeth but that her mom had called her Buffy since she was a baby.

I can't see it being a problem in school and such, I was in school with a guy who was always known as Fred by all the teachers and pupils even though his christian name was Patrick (Yes, I did go to a very strange school!)

And what's up with the Queen Mother being called Buffy, I can't get my head around that, maybe she'd be available for the new series!

Also, I believe in the very first ep, someone calls her Elizabeth and she says 'call me Buffy.' And yes Rane, Xanders name is Alexander LaVelle (which I'm not sure of the spelling of the middle name there... it doesn't look right at the moment) Harris.

There was an actual mention of Willow's middle name in a script once... or something like that; but it was never used in an episode that aired. Willow Danielle.
