DO NOT POST - Backup in Progress

Deadtime

Postby wiltar » Fri Dec 14, 2001 4:38 pm

Hey all

I had this question about Deadtime, a shortfilm that features Amber.
I know you can watch it at http://www.pepper-view.com/en/filmInfo. ... D=11&pos=9 but I want to download it and burn it on a cd so I can watch it over and over again

Does anyone know if it's up for download somewhere?

If not, would anyone be able to rip this somehow, to do a lot of kittens a huge favour?

Thanks in advance
Patricia

Software that can rip streaming RealMedia was developed at some point, but lawsuits took it out of circulation. You have to go to the internet underground to find it now.

I, of course, would have no earthly idea exactly where such software could be found, though, nor would I know how to use it. Nope. No idea. None at all. Nada. Nothing to see... move it along...

At any rate, even if the ripped file was to appear on my hard drive through mysterious circumstances, I don't have webspace available to post it, so someone else would have to help me... er, I mean a mysterious source... to get it posted.

Welluh...suppose that file would appear on you hard drive...I like that idea. I don't have any webspace, so IF that mysterious thing would happen I can't help you out
Any other kittens who want to help out pretty please???

I don't know if this works with RM files but it does with WMP and SWF files. What I do is watch it streaming then when it just finished, I click on

Start Button
Find
File Finder
Details
Date--Created on- Today's date
Find Now

Then on the list I just order the entries to show the latest files created. I find the relevant file and just copy it to a folder of my choice for archival and future watching/burning.

Nope, that doesn't work with Real Media. What you need is a program that mimics the protocols of RealPlayer, thus fooling the streaming source into letting you download the file.

I of course have no knowledge of how that might be done.

Oh, and the file is 7.2MB, so that's how much webspace we'd need. Theoretically.

Very interesting... It seems there are two versions of the RealMedia file attached to the same link. The first is a low-res version that's about 7.2MB. The second is a high-res version that's 66MB.

Again, I have no knowledge of how this information came to me. Must've been little elves.

The 7.6mb RM file is currently in my possession, and will be uploaded to my video page shortly. I will post the URL once the upload is complete.

If you are willing to mirror, let me know by e-mailing me at kalrnux@hotmail.com

Edited to add: As much as I'd love to, I can't rip the 66mb file since I'm on a 56k connection at my parents' house for winter break. If worse comes to worse and no one else posts the file, y'all will have to wait until January.

The high-resolution version turned out to be only 37.4MB. It's being uploaded to Adrienne's ftp space at this moment.

Oh, and I was never here...

Woo hoo! Thanks Bob and Adrienne! I hate keeping Kittens waiting...

For those Kittens on low-bandwidth (modem) connections, I have the low-res version of the video on my page:

Enjoy!

Hey I just ripped it off the website too, but it came out at 47.2Mb. What's the bitrate of the 37Mb version?

Oh, and does anyone have a better quality verison in mpeg/avi/whatever? I (ironically) don't really like watching real media files.

The bitrate on the 37MB version is 321.1Kbps. I don't know why the file sizes came out different.

Um, what exactly is "Deadtime"?? I hate feeling like a newbie. I downloaded it, and I don't quite understand what the dolls have to do with it, or what type of show it is supposed to be.

I just a short film, GiftofAmber. It didn't really make much sense to me either, but a lot of low budget indie type films don't make sense.

Basically I think the plot was Amber's character Patty is an insecure, slightly loony high school girl who was dating Tommy. Tommy decided to rob Patty's father's nut store. Tommy was a bad boyfriend to Patty, didn't care much about her, didn't have her picture in his wallet. Patty is supposed to wait in the truck while Tommy goes and does the robbery. Along comes one of the town cops in the small po-dunk town, he tries to get into Patty's pants, but his boss comes along and tells him to get back to work. Patty gets tired of waiting for her boyfriend to rob the store, so she takes his wallet which he dropped in the truck and goes and buys a big wedding cake. She takes the keys and goes and sits on the roof of a building and eats the cake while she watches Tommy come out of the store with the stolen nuts and freak out that that he doesn't have the keys to the get-away-vehicle. The cops come along and arrest Tommy. Patty laughs because she has screwed him over because he was a jerk. That sound like a good short synopsis?

Oh and the dolls? I wasn't too sure about that, other than they were a bride and a groom and maybe they represent a happy relationship, which Patty does not have. The later became the cake toppers for the cake she buys.

Veda--Thank you so much for the explanation! It makes a little more sense now. Amber did well portraying Patty, although in some ways, it kind of reminded me of what would have happened to Tara pre-Willow.

I love indie films. Most of them are like abstract arts, what you see is what you have in mind. The deep meaning that lay underneth depends on your attitude and how you see it.
My friend's short film have a story about people buying the empty boxes and addict to it ( the boxes Ha!can u imagine that?such a freak ) and I thought it's about circle of life. Then my friend said it's about politic!!! ( who would have thought )

Back to the topic.I think Amber's great in it ( as always ) Love the doll fight scene.Love rooftop scene.Love the mataphor about the doll and cake.Love the ending. But what's exactly stole nuts means?

I got an inspiration from Deadtime too.By the time I finish watching it,I got vivid imagination of my screenplay scene by scene with the town like that ( strangely quiet ).Let's hope my professor would like it to.

I watched it a few days ago, thanks to the tape Xita sent me. I just have to say this is one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. The metaphors are totally lost on me and it made me feel like I forgot to take my pills, but Amber looked cute *insert Beavis and Butthead giggle*

Yes! It's been a long time since first seeing this film and I haven't had a chance to watch it again yet, but I will hopefully tonight. I see why Amber loves the indies... DeadTime is very cool. Thanks to Bob, Adrienne and Kalrn for doing this.
