I was watching the Buffy reruns on FX and was excited because theyve started "the college years" haha which means... TARA!
When i hipped my sister to that little fact she was surprised and i reminded her of the story with Oz and Tara and Willow having to choose between the two and how she chose our loverly Tara. Then my 9yo sister said:

"I'd choose Tara too. I mean, which would you rather have; a boyfriend thats a werewolf or a nice, calm relaxed person?"

yeah, i thought she was a little weirded out about Willow "suddenly" turning the gay, but i guess not; AND her statement there shows that she didnt see a problem with the fact that both a boy and a girl liked and wanted Willow... AND WILLOW CHOSE THE GIRL! {squee!}

I like stories like this too. Hopefully this will help breed nice, open minded, less i've-got-issues-with-myself-and-other-people typ of children.

i have a story that goes along with this... i recently got my 11 yr old cousin into watching buffy. we had a buffy fest at my house one night b/c he'd never seen it and was really interested in it. as we were watching the last 6 episodes of last season, not to mention the fact that he was practically in my lap b/c some parts frightened him, he leaned close to my ear and whispered, "is willow gay? and is that tara girl her g/f?" keep in mind we were the only ones in the room and he whispered this, which was so adorable... n-e ways, i thold him that yes she is and yes tara is her g/f, he simply said, "oh, that's cool." i thought this was the cutest thing ever and i was so thrilled that he was so cool with it... kids are great.

Exactly! But alas, people seem not to want to give it up. It's good though, because some people, even though they were brought up with 'homophobia is norm' they still see the other way when they grow up.

Stories like these rock. What's more, I made my mom watch "The Body" and "Tabula Rasa" with me tonight, and "Once More, With Feeling" when it aired, and not one peep out of her. (I used to make her watch really subtext-heavy episodes of Xena with me, and she'd be complaining up and down the house.) I like to think it's that she's getting to be cool with it, and not the overwhelming cuteness of Willow and Tara.

My brother’s 11 and sometime he watches Buffy with me and once he turned around and pretty loud in fact went "Are they gay?" And I nodded and he just smiles. And ever since as he both he keeps forgetting Tara’s name (Doesn't watch it enough!) he just referee her as Willow g/f or on occasion the gay one. He really has no problems with the idea. My mum and Dad brought use all up pretty open minded- expect my older brother he can sometime get a little macho over the idea of gay man – well you can’t win them all!

it's great that little people are showing more tolerance. my brother (he's 8) has a bigger problem with the fact that they're witches than he does with the fact that they're lesbians.

everytime we watch buffy (which is fairly often... lol) he sighs and says "what's so special about being a witch anyways? they think they're sooo cool..."

i guess that's the attitude you get when you grow up surrounded by cauldrons and wands. lol. poor kid - he's been desensitised by my witchiness.

edited to add: tim, it's only spoilers from season four (i think)... and not a very big one.

YEAH! i LOVE Cho! lol ive never seen her live but shes doing a show soon imay go.

The thing about parents, i thought my mom would have problem with my sister for all the "gay" stuff my sister watches. shes 9 and a huge Will & Grace fan and friends fan (Ross lesbo ex-wife) and now W&T on Buffy, but it seems like she dosnt care haha and she definantly has issues with homosexuality (for absolutly no reason lol *rolls eyes* haha).

I got my sister watching Buffy. She's 14 years old and all of her friends watch the show but some of them said they didn't like Willow being gay. My sister, on the other hand, is really cool. I have the coolest kids, who are so into Willow and Tara. My nine year old daughter thinks they are so cute and my 11 year old daughter thinks they are cool.
The whole situation with W/T really helped them when I had to tell them I was gay...they said "it's ok mummy we don't mind we still love you".. my 11 year old even said "I might like girls more one day!". If my kids where any more open minded their brains would fall out.....
Programmes like Buffy are doing a great job in spreading acceptance of gay relationships and gives much more hope for the future

My sister is the same, she's 12 and has had no issues with W/T. To her, they're just another couple on the show. Of course, if she showed any homophobia in this house she'd be quickly shot down (in the "What is wrong with you?" way, not literally....)

Ok, no sis/bro here, and my cousin is to young to watch, but my grandmother loves the show. She had issues with gays but has come to accept them (my mother´s best friend is gay, so she kinda had to accept that homosexuals aren´t monsters .

Okay a complete lurker here i better make a confession i only started coming here cause you guys have the best spoilers and your multimedia threads are brillant!

Anyway i (i am 15 well 16 on saturday so i would still consider myself a sometimes immature child) think the tara and willow relationship rocks and this tv relationship has completely opened my mind up to lesbians and gays (not that it was that closed minded before) They are my favourite couple on the show (don't know how i will get through their split!) which makes my friends think that maybe if i didn't have such a huge obbsession with Nicholas Brendan i may be.

Oh and just thought i'd add Alyson is my idol.
