Thanks, dude...

I made this comment over in the "Complete Spoilers" thread, but I'll make it again here. When someone starts a review by taking pride in being the dissenting voice among all the critics who love Buffy, you can pretty much write the review off at that point. The guy obviously thinks highly of his Buffy-bashing tendencies and so you can't really expect to get an impartial evaluation of the show from him.

We Indy Racing League fans have had the same problem with CART-loving Robin Miller for years.

Remember the Kitten Board Mantras:

"Joss is nuts about Tara, Willow/Tara and Amber!"

"Willow and Tara are the most romantic couple on the show, and that's exactly how Joss is treating them."

Before anyone gets upset, remember, this guy HATES this show. Search for his past reviews, hates Buffy, hates SF, hates anything cool really.
Likes: Old cops and robbers crap...

I didn't read it.

Not because the guy's bashing the show, but because I realized it contained spoilers.

*glows with pride*

Yeah, bet that just drained the last of my resolve, huh?

Humph. Not that many bloody spoilers. He doesn't tell us anything we don't already know. Bugger.

Hence my one failed, pathetic attempt at avoiding spoilers. Which exhausted any strength I had built up for avoiding the blasted things.

Oh please. I only made that one, single, half-@ssed attempt. I can assure you it won't happen again. BRING ON THE SPOILERS, BABY!

("Denial. That comes before anger.")

All right, that's it . . . it's getting cramped and stuffy in here with just me, the Hoover wind tunnel vacuum, and the dustbunnies.

*busts open the door and proclaims loudly for the world to hear*

My name is Shanie, and I AM A SPOILER HO!

*steps out of the closet and plunks down on the couch with a beer*

There. I feel much better now. My name is Shanie, and I AM A SPOILER HO!

Critics are people who feed of the reflected glow of other peoples glory..they don't add much to the world of media..particularily when they obviously hate the show..to review Buffy or any show you need to at least contextualise it..what a wanker!!!

his comment about the vast difference between smg and her stunt double was funny, though...

but his comments were far from intelligent and insightful. he didn't really say anything about the show. *i* could have written a better negative review for this ep, and i haven't seen it!

ah well, tomorrow is only a day away.

Here's a much more positive review posted at the cross & stake from the Philadelphia News, there's basically no spoilers in it-

"Fans of the WB's 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' won't have to settle for pretty good. Tomorrow night, they get splendid. Not to mention shocking and sensational and all those other good blurb words.

Emmy voters may never embrace 'Buffy,' a show that's not built to swim in the mainstream, but I think Kelley, who's already won more than his share, could learn something about character development from 'Buffy' creator Joss Whedon, who's managed to keep a large ensemble cast from becoming merely an accumulation of quirks.

And while it's not too late, I hope, to fall in love with 'Buffy,' which will move to UPN next fall, this is a series that rewards the faithful. The core characters have grown and changed, but they have not lost their memories, or their feelings for one another.

There's subtext in their casual banter as well as an assumption, as 'Buffy's' world faces yet another apocalypse, that we know that she's saved the world several times before, and that we even know why this time might be different.

The ending left me satisfied and disturbed and wondering about next year.

You can't ask any more of a season finale than that."

I think i like this review a lot better
