I just want to say Thank You, for how you and others here keep debunking this rumor.

Some people may think its silly to invest one's self so much in a television show. For me, I've been invested fully for quite some time, and I think, live a better life as a result. These fictional characters mean a lot to me, and I do take what happens in their lives, seriously Sometimes, I pay a price.

Right after Christmas, I first heard the "Tara=dies" rumor, and promptly freaked out. I had a full-blown, no kidding, panic attack. I went on line and spent, literally, 60 hours with about 5 hours of sleep, trying to find something, anything, that said this rumor was false.

Everywhere I went except Spoiler Slayer and this board, scared me more. Finally, I found this board, and then this spoiler thread. I read the entire thread, from Part 1 all the way to present - twice. And the important parts, four and five times. And printed them out. And read them again.

I'm writing to thank you, as a representative of all the people on the board who argued so cognizantantly, with repeated, clear statements, and finally calmed my fears. Eventually, I stopped panicking, and now am back on safe emotional grounds again. I was a scared kitten in a dangerous emotional place, and all of you who kept posting sense in the face of nonsense and evil thoughts, made things safe for me again.

Reading what you just wrote, I needed to thank you. I want to make certain you and the other board elders know that your speaking really does touch people, and makes an enormous difference.

Thank you.

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Wed Jan 16, 2002 3:25 pm

You're very welcome.

It's all about critical thinking, as juri-sempai pointed out a couple of pages back. You can't just take things at face value. You can't just accept what a spoiler source says on the basis of that person "never being wrong." You've got to base things on facts. That applies to more things in life than just TV show spoilers, too.

Let me tell you, my location report stuff showing up as Herc's latest Angel spoilers was a real eye-opener. I don't know what route they took to reach him, but they got really mangled in the process.

Oh, and Brian & G-Man? You hush...

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby The Partyman » Wed Jan 16, 2002 5:03 pm

I agree that there has been NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER to convince me that Tara is in any kind of danger of being this "Big Scooby Death". None spoiler has been confirmed - just silly rumours lacking any details whatsoever *( & I think it's poetic justice to the *haters* that the spoilers confirming Tara in ep 16 come from the W/T fans at this board!)

I am beginning to think that the BSD rumour has just been put out to keep everyones minds busy.

Why do you have to have a death in order to create drama? You don't. Season 6 has got loads of drama already, and it still feels like its just getting started.

I'm sure I had something ingenious to say about the tragedy of the current W/T situation, but I can't remember.

Partyman

P.S. This board is great guys. I haven't had the chance to post here as much as I might like, but there's always interesting posts to read (and not just the SCOOP spoilers*g*).
At the Kitten board the posters seem able to a discuss the relationships within BtVS a lot more intelligently than at other boards (I suppose there's no arguing over "Who's the best" *g*).

I put this down to intuition and understanding. It could easily be said that Willow and Tara have had one of the most interesting and understanding relationships in the Buffyverse, and when one's followed and understood their relationship, I think it helps one to have a more reasoned approach to discussing the show etc.

Basically what I'm saying is, liking Willow and Tara clearly makes the boards a better place

P.S. I didn't mean to annoy anyone by cut'n'pasting WPS's *Suprise* Spoiler - I just wondered if the new scriptbits shed any light onto what he might have meant.

Heck, what he's got now is less accurate than what we've got. I know that for a fact, because his spiffy new Angel spoilers are actually a garbled version of what I saw last Friday night.

There is not now, nor has there been at any time this season, anything in the way of credible evidence that Tara's going to be killed off. Period. THERE. HAS. BEEN. NONE. Got it? There's been nothing but a bunch of people repeating the same rumor over and over in the hope that they can somehow make it true. Well, that ain't gonna happen.

As for the Big Scooby Death, I'm sticking to my new theory that whatever made people think there was going to be one was actually a reference to what Cordelia went through in this week's Angel episode.

OK, before you take a few more bites out of my head for stating my opinion on something, I'll respond in a respectful manner.
I didn't say anywhere in my post that Herc said Tara was going to die, so you are right...we've had no evidence to support such a statement. He has said however, that there would be a BSD, and that it won't be before ep 16 and that he has quite accurate for this seasons spoilage, so it may not be smart to just sweep all "BSD" ideas under the carpet. And yes, I know Herc has been wrong before (last year Anya was supposed to bite the big one according to him). However, for those of us who don't have "sources" and handy location shoots to attend, all we can do is look at past accuracy records as an indication on how accurate a person is. That is all I was stating. Yes, I threw in the fact that most people think poor Tara practically has "Toast" tatooed on her forehead, but that was my own doing and I see now such a statement isn't welcome, even in speculation, unless I'm going to whine about it and put little "sad" emoticons in my post about it.
Feel free to stick with your theory about the BSD. I personally don't see how anyone could miscontrue "Cordy's going to be out of her body for an ep and made half demon this season so she can tolerate visions" with "A Scooby will die this season" but over analyzing is a trait that I'm sure most spoiler leakers have to do with the vague info their sometimes given.
I really do hope Herc is wrong for the simple fact that I don't want any of the Scoobs to bite it.

For those of us "not in the know" we do rely on critical thinking. Given two spoiler sites/sources to choose from...who are you going to take? Some guy you don't know on a message board...where fake spoilers are known to be made up all the time...or a semi-professional website that has been accurate plenty of times before and not just for this show, but others as well...and when they haven't been right, they've said so.
So, I believed I was using critical thinking when trying to decipher who to listen to.
I also don't blame you one bit for being pissed about Herc's using your spoilers without giving you credit. We all know you work hard to make it to location shoots and that you comply with everything the PA's tell you so that you're allowed back again, so I don't think anyone begrudges you for being pissed about that.

I totally agree with this. I remember wishing back in season 5 for more interaction between these two, like maybe Tara could go work part time in the magic store, needing money when her family cuts her off after "Family", or something like that. I think they could each help each other with their respective problems (Anya's tactlessness, Tara's shyness) better than their respective SOs could.

Well, two things I want to say here. First, a little empathy please. Yes I know a lot of W/O 'shippers acted like assholes when Tara came along, or anyway that's what I've heard, and I don't doubt it. But try to put yourself in their place...all this heartbreak and angst over what is almost certainly a temporary W/T breakup. How do you think they felt? When you've invested emotionally in a relationship for two years, and then it is ripped apart, it hurts.

Second, while a guest appearance by Oz by himself would likely "stoke the W/O shippers", an appearance by Oz all lovey-dovey with a new girlfriend, or even married as Riley is supposed to be according to the spoilers, would have just the opposite effect. That is something I for one wouldn't mind seeing.quote:quote:quote:

This is the post Bob responded to, you say you are merely stating your opinion, but to me it sounded like you were stating facts (I mean your comments about Herc and Tara). We have discussed the Tara dying rumours at length, in the 3 previous spoiler threads there have been, and with a few exceptions most of us do not see *any* signs pointing at Tara. And whenever this comes up again, it starts all over.

As for Herc being right about almost everything this season, hmmph, well no, I think not. If you want the most accurate spoiler bringer, go to Angel X' site.

I've remebered now!
Its to do with Shakespeare (sort of!)

This season, BtvS's story arc has been swinging through dark times, with all the characters facing their own, very real challenges, but in the Willow/Tara breakup, it could be said that their current situation is tragic...

Anyway, I remebered something one of my University Professors said to us at the end of our Shakespeare course (To paraphrase...)

"The most imortant thing is to remember the difference between a COMEDY and TRAGEDY."

"TRAGEDY is a HAPPY story with a SAD ending."

"COMEDY is a SAD story with a HAPPY ending."

So, with Season Six being about facing the real challenges in the world, and a continuation of much of the emotion of season Five, I see W/T like this:

Their relationship could (at this point) be considered a tragedy - a very happy relationship with a sad ending.

But this being the Jossverse, stories do not end so simply, even with such pain as the seperation is causing them...

Now (post Smashed) Joss continues the story...

I think we will have a very sad story...
but with a HAPPY ENDING!

I hope that made sense to people...

Yes, the statement I made about Herc's accuracy was meant to be fact. He's been right on for most things this season. The best way to test who is truly accurate on most things is through Spoiler Slayer. That site has the most objective ranking of spoiler sources and their accuracy...and believe it or not, Herc's at the top.
The only thing I said about Tara that could have been taken as "fact" was referring to Herc's statement that whomever dies doesn't do so before ep 16, so saying that Tara's in ep 16 therefore, she can't die, just isn't a realistic confirmation that she can't possibly be the BSD.

Again, refer to the Spoiler Slayer. Yes, AngelX is kicking butt right now, but she's been wrong before too. No one person has ever been 100% accurate, even accurate spoilers from BBOven have been blown way out of proportion and misconstrued because even location shoots require a bit of interpretation from the party and that can never be 100% (see: Aly kicking the can).

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Wed Jan 16, 2002 6:09 pm

There's a reason Michelle aka AnGeL X is the most accurate spoiler source around and has been for more than two years running - she doesn't post anything until she has FACTS in her hand to support what she's posting.

Herc obviously does not, since he's posting some garbled third-hand account of my location shoot report without tracing it back to me and confirming it with me. But even then, spoilers from my location report really couldn't be considered hard objective evidence, unless you limit yourself strictly to what I saw and heard and don't put any interpretation on it. And even then you still have to trust that I'm not just making it all up.

Now, as for another matter...

No, actually such a statement is welcome (by me, anyway, since I can't speak for the moderators) only if there are FACTS to go with it. As has been said countless times before, there are NONE at the present time. If someone comes up with concrete evidence to suggest that Tara's going to be killed off, you better believe I want to know about it and will be willing to discuss it. But not before.

I'm sorry if you're miffed about me "biting your head off," but for crying out loud this is really getting tiresome. Every time we get these rumors quieted down, someone else appears on the board and says "boogity boogity boogity Tara's going to die neener neener neener I'm just expressing my opinion so why are you so upset?" and then the whole thing starts over again.

Bring me facts and I'll discuss them. If all you want to do is speculate about the same old unsubstantiated rumor we've already wasted posts by the hundreds over, I don't want to hear it.

Um, not that long ago Herc was speculating that the Big Scooby Death was going to happen during Episode 15. It's only now that he's saying it doesn't happen before episode 16.

Another thing to take note of is that Herc's excellent record is based on a scoring system in which the only thing that matters is who posted a particular spoiler first. Whether or not a spoiler source reported and believed a spoiler is another story entirely. Thus, though Herc is still proclaiming Willow will be the Big Bad (something even the Spoiler Slayer has listed as 'unlikely'), it won't be recorded as a false spoiler against him if it is shown to be wrong. That rumor surfaced in the UK first, so they're the ones that will get the hit. Just a thing to take under consideration.

In any case, this is the war that will never end. Some people *really* don't like Herc, others view his word as gospel and seem insulted whenever people question him. Personally I still think he's a pretty good source of spoilers, but *not* infallible. Yes, I know he has an excellent record, but besides the specific reason stated above I would like to once again mention that Marti Noxon stated over the summer they would be sending out false spoilers this year. In that interview she specifically mentioned 'Ain't it Cool News', and one month later the Big Scooby Death rumor emerged. I thus believe it is *entirely possible* that this is an intentionally released false spoiler, sent out to both locate leaks and cause chaos. I also think it's possible that it's correct, so everyone should keep an open mind. Still, a big character death seems like the best possible fake spoiler Mutant Enemy could formulate. It would cause the maximum amount of havoc for the longest period of time, and could not be disproven until the end of the year. In any case, we shall see, but unfortunately not for a while yet.

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Wed Jan 16, 2002 6:38 pm

Herc's infallibility started to fade around "All The Way," and was completely gone by "Smashed." I would think that anything he predicted for later in the season is suspect, even if he made the prediction last summer. Actually, I'd be most suspect of any prediction he made last summer (i.e. Willow becoming the Big Bad and so on) because by now the storyline of the season has no doubt evolved inside Joss's mind and in the Mutant Enemy offices.

At the beginning of Season 5 there was someone who somehow managed to get detailed synopses of the first four episodes. We were all anxiously awaiting a synopsis for Episode #5, because we knew that would be the revelation of what Dawn really was - and the synopsis never came. That source never reappeared. I don't even remember what his or her name was now. Stuff like that happens. Spoiler sources dry up.

One more thing about Herc - Remember, folks, that he's the one who told us last year that the Season 5 finale would involve Spike turning Buffy into a vampire.

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby lahabiel » Wed Jan 16, 2002 6:47 pm

SPECULATION, NOT A SPOILER ...

I don't know if this has been thought of yet, and I hope I'm wrong, but ... there is something that could happen which would satisfy a lot of the not-yet-confirmed-or-debunked spoilers.

Willow could get vamped.

That would be a death that's not a death, and could keep Alyson on the show beyond this season, especially if they restored her soul to save her. (I just gave the Tara/VampWillow 'shippers shivers)

It would be a Big Scooby Death, and without a conscience, Willow would revert back to magic and become possibly the biggest Big Bad in BtVS history.

And with Willow all magic-avoidy, and everyone oblivious to each other, it could happen very quickly and easily, say, in the middle of a human/demon wedding party melee...

OH, DON'T PANIC, I'M PROBABLY WAY WAY OFF, I'M JUST MESSING WITH Y'ALL.

Would this be a bad time to mention I'm evil?

Ah, so speculation and interpretation are only allowed when it involves joking about Xander and Tito...or what was seen on a location shoot? Not that I was speculating or interpreting anything to begin with...and I'd really love for someone to cut and paste where I said, "TARA WILL DIE!! HERC SAID SO"
since everyone seems to think that's what I said.

Again, please cut and paste where I said "Tara's going to die." All I stated was that statements like "Well, now we know Tara's safe because she's in 16" aren't facts for her life longevity either. Bring me facts that she's in all 22 eps, and alive and well at the end of the season, and I'll gladly discuss them as well. Okay, I'm coming back to this post, because it's the one that got me (and Dr. G and others) ticked off. Let's examine it, shall we?

quote:
Herc has been right on for almost everything this year

First of all, it's not true - or it hasn't been for the past several episodes, at any rate. Second of all, you imply that you're stating this in order to establish:

quote:
I know all signs are pointing to Tara

All signs WHERE? Where are the FACTS? Yeah, there are a bunch of people kicking a rumor around. Does that really mean "all signs are pointing to Tara?" I don't think so. In fact, all the OFFICIAL signs have pointed AWAY from Tara.

quote:
her being in ep 16 doesn't really confirm anything

True. Tara's being in Episode 16 doesn't confirm that she won't die later. It also doesn't confirm that she and Willow won't make mad passionate love on Buffy's dining room table. It doesn't confirm that Dawn's head won't spin around and explode. It doesn't confirm that Hugh Hefner won't show up and want to use Anya for his next centerfold. There's an infinite number of things that each spoiler doesn't confirm. What's the point of discussing them if there's no evidence to back them up? Last time I checked, this was the Spoiler Thread, not the Meaningless Unsubstantiated Speculation Thread or the Fanfic Thread.

quote:
he recently posted that the BSD won't be in ep 16 or before that. So, it's still out there to happen

That's one possible interpretation. Here's another - Herc was wrong when he talked about a Big Scooby Death to begin with and he's now changing his story to hide the fact that he was wrong. Which is right? I don't know yet - but I'm not going to assume that Herc is all-knowing. I'm going to look at what the evidence tells me as it comes in.

Like I said, this is just one more trip around the same pointless merry-go-round.

Y'know, this is why I hate ME for not making Amber a reg. Because it gives people license to say "Ooh, she's not a reg. They must be planning on killing her off"

And it's ridiculous to expect people to prove a negative (that there is no possible way Tara could be killed off, at any point during the series) But the original rumors said the BSD would be during sweeps, and guess what? Tara's still alive past Feb sweeps. That's confirmed. So, if the people spreading this rumor are now backsliding, I'm supposed to take them seriously and get all worried???

Tara dies rumors have been going around for ages. Since she was introduced. Personally, I have *no* interest in seriously considering her death, have not seen any real evidence that it's likely, and am tired of the rumors. Like Bob, I'm not gonna take this seriously until we get some confirmation. I'm talking casting sides, interview info, etc. Until that point, I don't intend to get all stressed everytime some new variation of this oh-so-tired rumor comes up.

Not in a "Oh, we have learned she's leaving the show and so are changing her status" way, but in a "It's as if she was never on the show" way. This is therefore most likely another error from when they then added her back. As an additional note, they don't specifically add the '1998-2002' style info until *after* a person has left the series. The current entry on Amber Benson would therefore be considered incorrect by the site owners.

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby BBOvenGuy » Wed Jan 16, 2002 8:09 pm

Yeah, the IMDB is dependent on information supplied by readers, so sometimes fan-generated rumors show up.

If I remember correctly, for a time they had Shannen Doherty listed in the Buffy cast as Giles's daughter - or another character with the last name "Giles" at any rate. Stuff like that happens.

Remember the Kitten Board Mantra: "Joss is nuts about Tara, Willow/Tara and Amber!"
(...and Marti's rather fond of them, too...)

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Urgh...I'm not sure what happened there with the above post, but here goes:

Lovely, I've managed to tick people off. So not my intention, but people are going to get pissed when someone dares to challenge anything they say, so it's no surprise.

First of all, it's not true - or it hasn't been for the past several episodes, at any rate. Second of all, you imply that you're stating this in order to establish:
"I know all signs are pointing to Tara"

That's not my quote, so I have no reason to respond to it.
However, if you go back to the Coax archives starting with July 4th, you'll see Herc's accuracy. I never said he was 100%, just that he's been dead on for most of the season. We've had 11 eps so far, he had details for everything up to Tabula Rasa, so that's "most of the season." Sure, he's getting a lot of his stuff from the same places others are (sides), but that doesn't negate the validity of his spoilers.

All signs WHERE? Where are the FACTS? Yeah, there are a bunch of people kicking a rumor around. Does that really mean "all signs are pointing to Tara?" I don't think so. In fact, all the OFFICIAL signs have pointed AWAY from Tara.

Again, this is in response to something that wasn't even my quote.

Last time I checked, people weren't jumping with joy and slamming the naysayers over sides saying that Tara and Willow get it on on Buffy's dinning room table, but they have been stating as "fact" that Tara couldn't conceivably die due to a few sides from ep 16. I'm simply stating that a reliable source stated that a BSD will not occur before ep 16, therefore, it's not proof that Tara (or anyone for that matter, I didn't feel the need to mention them originally because this is a W/T board) won't be the one to die after that ep. It was a response to that and nothing more.

Ah, so all the posts concerning Xander and Tito's secret love affair are only on my computer when I bring up the page? That's odd.

That's your theory and it could be true...and I'll about admitting a wrong if it comes to that...and Herc's done that before as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did posted he was wrong as well.
But, like you, I don't know who's right yet either, and when the time comes, I hope none of the Scoob's die, but I'm not going to blindly ignore all Herc's spoilers either. He's been too reliable to me to do so.

Swa, for hells sake..register! Then you can edit and all that fun stuff.

And, people can speculate until they turn blue with glee or madness..it's sort of half the fun of not getting all of the goodness(spoilers) at once. We're just getting drips and drabs and make of it what you will. Both sides just need to acknowledge that NEITHER of you know for certain what will happen. Just don't get pissy and defensive at each other about it, ok?

Now, go play nice.

See, thing is, someone with that same nick posted that on pg 18. Not you?

ps: the trick to the jedi mind trick - "Tara will die...you must feel upset.." the important thing is to repeat. Doesn't matter if she doesn't die by the stipulated ep, she will, later.

General Season 6 SPOILERS - Part 4: Save Tito!

Postby xita » Wed Jan 16, 2002 8:42 pm

Swa, I am going to ask you to take it elsewhere, it isn't welcome here, you bring nothing new to the plate. Any new info? New actual sources? Not a friend of a friend who heard on the set, that blah blah blah? I think not. Herc's spoilers? Heard them, Wendy? heard it, Sweetie? heard it too. You have sides that says Tara dies? A script? Ok, then it's time to move on.

Herc isn't infallible and he hasn't had any new spoiler since about tabula rasa, he's posted what everyone else has. And everyone knows that all the current spoilers are coming from AngelX, no matter what they are saying, plus the sides which we know many people get, thankfully

He's been wrong before:

From July:
We’ve got our first, very confident look at the first eight UPN episodes of the best television show in production, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Here’s the big news:

* The increasingly powerful telekinetic redhead Willow is going to go from Marvel Girl to Dark Phoenix. Look for her to emerge as the season’s Big Bad.
(comment by xita, we'll see about the info below
* A midseason wedding is planned for Xander and Anya, but when an anxious Xander gets cold feet on wedding day, Anya turns back into a vengeance demon and seeks out the boy who stood her up. But even in demon-mode Anya realizes she can’t hurt her little butt-monkey -- and reverts back to human.

Buffy 6.8 (Nov. 20)
When a demon invades Buffy, making it impossible for her to determine what is and isn’t real, she winds up in a mental hospital.
I warn you not to defy me!
hts

From Septemer
OZ BACK FOR A BIT? E! is running an “Everything Emmy” special (featuring interviews with the fabulous Wanda) that bemoans the Academy of TV Seniors – er, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – and its continued snubbing of the best show eligible for Emmy nomination, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The weird part: all sorts of footage depicts Seth Green frolicking with the current regulars. Says Jules Asner’s voice-over: they caught up with the “Buffy” crew as they shot their latest Halloween episode. Is Oz back for a bit, or was E! just airing a bit of stock footage? Herc's guessing Oz is back for Halloween.

So, not everything he says is true. And last year up until the end, everything was pretty much wrong. Also, he had said it was sweeps when Tara was going to die. Then it was ep 15, then he clarified stating maybe not till 16 (but then as we learned other spoilers and realized that well it wasn't going to happen) then it became, well after that. Well you know, this is not a spoiler anymore. That becomes a guessing game.

I may add, that I know the proponents of a Tara death insist that this will go along the lines, of Tara dies, WIllow becomes evil. Hmm, now, I am telling you that because the death hasn't happened, the time line will stretch, I predict that soon we will hear that Willow is being set up as the season 7 big bad. Cause it ain't happening this season. I mean what Tara dies in 18 and Willow is the big bad for like waht 3 eps.. yeah right.

You're right hon. I didn't recognize the quote because it was taken out of context. My apologies for not recognizing it.
Sorry about that.

P.S. Banshee, I am registered, have been for some time, but it's not recognizing me for some reason. Does the registration run out? It's been awhile since I last posted, but it's the name and password I've always used.
