Part 12

When Tara returned home two hours later, she felt drunk with happiness. The memory of Willow’s arms around her waist, their bodies so close together, those dazzling emerald eyes right in front of her and the cute Willow-grin and Willow-lips so close up that Tara could lean in and kiss them made Tara feel light-headed and giddy. Of course, she hadn’t kissed Willow, but she had wanted to so much it was as though a magnet had been drawing Tara to Willow’s lips with irresistible force. But Tara had resisted. And she hated herself for it. She wished she could have been brave enough, wished she could have plucked up the courage to at least tell Willow how she felt, but she hadn’t.

During the slow dance, for one heart stopping, breathtaking moment, Willow had laid her head on Tara’s shoulder, her nose buried into the blonde’s neck and Tara thought her knees would collapse right then and there. Instead, she managed to stand up right and breath in Willow’s delicious scent as though it were her oxygen; a vital part of living.

Once that particular song had ended, a faster song came back on. Although she hadn’t wanted to, Tara let go of Willow and let her hands drop reluctantly to her sides, but Willow still hadn’t released Tara. She stayed with her hands encircling Tara’s waist and gave her a light squeeze before letting go.

“Thanks for the dance,” she had smiled, and her eyes sparkled.

“No problem,” Tara managed to squeak out. She stared at the redhead in front of her and wondered how she would take it if she confessed undying love to her and kissed her until she was breathless and dizzy, but then decided against it.

They had sat back at their table with drinks and talked. Tara was delighted that it turned out they had many things in common. They were both huge fans of SpongeBob, they both loved cats and koala bears, they agreed that The Cat in the Hat was the best childhood book they had ever read, and their favourite Disney character was Tinkerbell. All of this just convinced Tara more that Willow was made for her, and she Willow. Tara had never met anyone – not even Kendra – that she could talk to so freely and easily. Willow made Tara feel as though she were special, and important. She listened to what Tara had to say and even seemed to find it interesting. Tara had told Willow about her father, and his drunken rages and abusive behaviour, and Willow had gotten so angry that she looked like she was about to march down to Alabama and beat Mr Maclay within an inch of his life. In turn, Willow told Tara about how her parents never took any notice of her and didn’t care about her, as long as her grades were good and the neighbours were impressed. Tara felt shocked. How could anyone not want to pay attention to Willow except for her grades? There was so much more to Willow than just her cleverness.

Tara had only known Willow for a day, and yet it felt like forever. Tara hadn’t known it was possible to fall in love with someone in less than 24 hours, but apparently, it was.

Tara let herself in by the front door, and jumped in shock when she saw her mother standing in the hall.

“Mama!” she cried, her heart racing. “You scared me!”

Mrs Maclay smiled. “Sorry, sweetie. I was going to make a coffee, but I saw you outside, thought I’d wait for you.”

Tara narrowed her eyes at her mom as she hung up her jacket. “Mama, you weren’t waiting up for me, were you?”

Mrs Maclay sighed. She had never been very good at lying to her daughter. “Well, it is a new town. I was worried.”

“I told you I’d be home by half ten,” Tara reminded her, glancing up at the clock that hung on the wall. “I’m early.”

“I know,” Mrs Maclay nodded. “And I’m sorry. I know you’re not a little girl any more. You don’t need me getting all panicky.” Suddenly, she looked teary. “My little baby girls grown up so fast.”

Tara rolled her eyes jokingly. “Mama!” She put an arm around her mothers shoulders and ushered her into the kitchen, sitting her down on a chair and then switching the kettle on.

“How was your night?” Mrs Maclay asked, dabbing at her eyes, feeling a little embarrassed to have gotten so emotional.

“It was wonderful,” Tara answered truthfully as she got two cups out of the cupboard.

She turned to look at her mother and felt a stab of guilt. She had said it was wonderful, but had not told why. Tara had been hiding that she was gay for three years. She had first found out when she was 13, and the fact that she found girls attractive hadn’t come as a surprise at all. It felt natural. It was natural. She had been too scared to tell anyone though. Her mother, Tara knew, would love her whatever, but that didn’t make it any easier, and as for her father and Donnie, Tara knew how they’d react, and it wouldn’t be good. But her father wasn’t here anymore, and Tara knew that it was now or never. She had to tell her mother, she knew it would be better that way. At least then she’d be able to confide in someone about Willow, other than Faith.

Taking a deep breath, trying to sort out what she was going to say, Tara set the cup of hot coffee in front of her mom.

“Mama, can I tell you something?”

Awwww, here comes the huge secret. I'm sure Tara's mum will be fine about, actually, she probably already knows! Wouldn't suprise me. And why didn't Tara just kiss her! She could have just let her lips fall those extra milometers down and been in heaven. Blame it on gravity!

Oh, the dance sounded heavenly. Maybe it was too soon for so bold a maneuver as the kiss. Maybe soon though?

I think her mom will be very understanding. Can't wait to find out though!

Everyone seems to be calling me evil! :lol I apologise for leaving you with the cliffhanger, but will an update make me good again? Or at least marginally less evil? ;) Also, I’ve been reading of several ways people have suggested of killing Donnie, my favourite being that he should be hit by a meteor :lol so if anyone has any more ways to kill the little asshole, keep them coming! Make them as imaginative as you like, it keeps the smile on my face! :D Thanks again for reading this guys. Your positive comments are what keep me motivated to write!

Part 13

“Of course, sweetie, you can tell me anything, you know that.”

Tara nodded. “Okay…w-well, um...” she paused, suddenly not so sure. She’d gone over what she would say a million times, but now that the moment was here, she forgot everything that she had rehearsed over the years. She looked into her mothers’ smiling, expectant face and sighed. Would what she was about to say make the smile disappear? Would her mom be angry? Upset? Disappointed? Ashamed? Tara swallowed hard, pushing the negative thoughts out of her mind. Focus, Tara, focus. Conjuring up her remaining courage, Tara met her mother’s clear blue gaze and saw that it was filled with love. She could do this. “I’m gay.”

She let her statement hang there in the silence of the kitchen. It came out a little blunter than she had wanted, but at least she had said. At least now it was over, and Tara congratulated herself for that at least. Suddenly, her bravery wilted and died as she saw her mother’s eyes widen. Oh, God.

Her mom remained quiet for several minutes .At least she wasn’t yelling. In fact, she didn’t look mad at all, or anything else that Tara had thought. Her eyebrows dipped together to form a frown on her face, and Tara wished she knew what she was thinking. Finally, just when Tara was about to speak again to break the unbearable silence, her mom asked a question.

“Are you happy?”

Not trusting herself to speak, Tara nodded. Her mom’s smile returned.

“Well then, so am I,” she said, placing her hand over Tara’s and giving it a reassuring squeeze. “I’m glad you told me.”

Now it was Tara’s turn to frown. That had gone better than she had expected. A lot better. She hadn’t expected her mom to take it badly, not really, but she expected some more questions to come her way.

“Mama, are you okay w-with it?” Tara asked apprehensively.

“Sweetie, I’m more than okay,” Mrs Maclay said seriously. “Whatever makes my little girl happy is good in my book.”

“You’re not…disappointed?”

Her mom cupped Tara’s face in her hands. “Nothing you do could ever disappoint me, Tara,” she smiled, giving her daughter a kiss on the forehead.

Tara felt like a giant burden had been lifted from her shoulders. She felt so much better now that she knew she didn’t have to hide, at least not from her mom. Tears of happiness sprang to her eyes, and she hugged her mom close to her. “I love you, Mama.”

“I love you too, Tare-honey-bear,” her mom laughed, using her old pet nickname. “Now, it’s late, how about we get some sleep?”

The two of them stood up and went upstairs, going into their separate rooms. Tara got into her bed and switched the light out. She lay there, in the dark, thinking about the following day of school, before she fell asleep, only to slip into a dream where she was once again in Willow’s arms.

~*~*~

Willow was rudely awoken by her alarm clocks incessant ringing, jerking her out of a dream involving her, Tara, and smoochies.

“Stupid alarm clock,” she muttered sleepily as she glared resentfully at it. She was only angry for a moment, though, when she remembered that she faced nearly a whole school day with Tara. She dressed quickly and went down to the kitchen, where her dad was sat. He barely glanced up from his morning paper when she greeted him, and when she left for school, he didn’t even seem to notice. It was a normal morning in the Rosenberg house.

On the walk to school, thoughts of Tara had officially taken over any other thoughts Willow had. She was so caught up in thinking of the blonde and the dance they had last night that she didn’t notice when Xander, Anya and Buffy were right in front of her.

“Hey, Will,” Xander grinned. “You’re looking awfully chipper this morning. Does it have anything to do with a certain Tara who shall remain nameless that you were dancing with last night?”

“You did look pretty darn snugly together,” Anya pointed out.

Buffy smiled. “These two make it sound so cute, I’m sorry I missed it.”

Willow remembered her friends’ sudden disappearance from the Bronze. “Yeah, Buffy, where were you last night? You just took off.”

Buffy shrugged. “I needed some air. I had some things to think about. Anyway, you, don’t change the subject. Tell us all about you and Tara.”

“There’s nothing to tell,” Willow said. “We danced, and then we talked. That’s it.”

“Oh, just admit that she makes you tingly!” Anya said impatiently.

Willow frowned. “She makes me what now?”

“Tingly,” Anya repeated. “You know…like, whenever she’s around, your head and stomach gets tingly.”

Xander looked at his girlfriend and grinned goofily. “Do I make you tingly?”

Anya returned the smile. “All the time,” she assured him, and then turned back to Willow. “Admit it.”

Willow shifted uncomfortably, somehow unnerved that Anya had pinpointed her feelings accurately. “Well…there may be a tingle factor,” she said slowly.

“Told you,” Anya said proudly. “They’ll be smooching at the end of the week.”

“Anya!” Willow felt her face grow hot, half of her embarrassed, half of her pleased about the thought of Tara smoochies.

“She’s a wonder with words,” Xander chuckled as he gazed lovingly at Anya. His gaze moved from his girlfriend to someone behind Willow and his eyes widened. “Hey, Will! Tingle-woman coming this way!”

Willow turned and saw Tara climbing the steps. She waved the get the blonde’s attention, and Tara joined them. Willow just hoped that her friends, especially Anya, wouldn’t say anything to scare her off.

When she approached, Tara gave Willow her trademark cute half smile, and Willow felt the tingle all over her body.

Okay, Kittens, I'm afraid I don't come with an update (please don't shoot me) but I do have replies! An update will be coming soon, I promise! :angel The reason I'm so sucky with the update-age is because, mainly, I'm on holiday and actually forgot about the fic (again please dont shoot), but maybe you'll be pleased to know I've got another fic idea rolling around my brain, so you might have another fic from me to read! Don't know if you'll be pleased about that or not :paranoid

Anyway, here are the replies...

Wimpy - I'm happy that I made you :dance Friends can be pains in the ass with the teasing! I suspect some togethery tingles for Willow and Tara in the future :)

Stroke of Luck - Ah, about the fast updater thing. Not so much. I've been a bad updater recently. Sorry :( Hey, maybe Anya's telepathic? She could be reading Willow's thoughts and feelings!

RaVeN - New sport, huh? Well, if it made it to the olympics, Willow and Tara would win for sure. They'd get a shiny trophy and everthing :D Hey, it's been a while - found that keyboard yet? :lol

lil c - Yeah, about Tara's mom: I just didn't see her as the type to be bothered at all about it. Or maybe it was my subconcious writing out how I'd like it to go in my life :hmm

Arwen - I'm going to be writing more about Willow's parents, so I hope I don't get you too angry!

sam darls - Tingles are a definite cuteness factor :) Glad you liked

The Rose - You're glad things WET well for Tara? Was that a typo, or...? :lol

Axel Avalon - Wow, it must be special to require capitals and bold text. Cool! :blush

And remember - UPDATES WILL BE SOON! Please don't give up on me! :flirt

Part 14

Faith was usually seen as an intimidating person, but today, as she walked through the school halls glaring at anyone who passed, she looked angrier than she had ever been. And she was feeling angry; angry with herself, because she'd broken her number one important rule - don't let anyone in. It was safer if you stayed on your own, because if you got close to someone, they'd find your weakness, and use it against you. After all, it had happened before. She'd loved her daddy so much, and he had loved her - he had told her all the time that she was his little precious baby girl - but still he went away. He walked out and left her with her drunken, abusive mother, so what good was loving someone if they were just going to stomp on your heart? It was better on your own. But now, she'd blown it. She'd told Buffy she loved her and it was all shot to hell. She hadn't meant to say it, but she had, and it was the truth, but sometimes, the truth can come back to get you. Buffy knew her weakness now. Buffy was her weakness.

"Damn it," Faith grumbled under her breath as she reached her locker. Suddenly, she heard a voice behind her.

"Oh, look, Faith's in a bad mood, surprise, surprise!" Cordelia said, laughing cruelly to her group of friends. "What's the matter, Faithy? Buffy dump you again?"

Something inside of Faith snapped. She spun around and caught Cordelia by surprise, grabbing her and slamming her up against the lockers. Cordelia's eyes widened in shock and fear as Faith leant in close to whisper in her ear.

"Cordelia, I am having a very bad day, and listening to your whiny assed voice isn't helping any. Now, while punching your face in would improve my mood a great deal, I don't fancy spending my afternoon in detention because of you. So," she finished, letting Cordelia go and pushing her away from her, "stay out of my way."

Cordelia's friends looked uncertainly at their leader, unsure of what to do. Cordelia straightened out her clothes and looked at Faith like she was going to say something, but then thought better of it. She beckoned to her friends, and then stalked off, cheeks burning from shame.

Faith turned back to her locker, and found herself face to face with Tara.

"Jesus, Blondie!" Faith scowled, taking a step back. "Next time, wear a bell." She started to get out books from her locker.

"Why did you do that to Cordelia?" Tara frowned.

"She's Cordelia," Faith shrugged. "If anyone needs threatening, and on a daily basis, it's her."

Tara nodded slowly. "Right," she said, drawing out the word. She looked closer at Faith. "Are you okay?" she asked, sensing all was not quite right with her friend.

"Zippedy-doo-dah," Faith answered sarcastically, slamming her locker closed and walking down the hall. Tara followed her.

"Did you talk to Buffy last night?" the blonde asked.

Faith turned to look at her sharply. "Why do you ask?"

"B-Buffy left the Bronze a little while after you did. I thought you two might have…t-talked."

Faith sighed. "We didn't talk so much as shout," she admitted.

"Oh," Tara lowered her head slightly. "Sorry."

"Don't be, I've got enough sorry-ness for the both of us," Faith managed a small grin. "Anyway, how's things with you and Red?"

"They're going okay, I think," Tara said uncertainly. "I mean, we like each other, I just don't if she likes me that much."

"I think she does," Faith assured her. "The way she looks at you…she goes all sparkly-eyed."

"Really?"

"Yup," Faith nodded. "You just gotta be confident. Although you're shyness is adorable, confident chicks are way sexy."

The two reached their next class, English, and sat in their seats. From her place, Cordelia gave Faith a dirty look, but remained silent. As Miss Holder began writing the days lesson on the board, Tara and Faith carried on with their conversation.

"Do you want to tell me what happened between you and Buffy?" Tara asked after a bit.

Faith looked at an ink splodge on the desk for a long while, and then looked Tara dead in the eyes. "I told her I loved her."

Tara smiled. "Well, that's good, right?"

"Maybe. We'll have to see," Faith shrugged. "I don't know. I do love her; I wasn't making it up. Buffy was the only person in my life who never gave up me, who never walked out on me." Faith laughed bitterly. "Instead, I'm the one who ruined it for us. I'm such an idiot, and I'm really sorry about it. If I could take it all back, I would in a heartbeat, but I can't, so I'm going to have to settle for showing Buffy how much she means to me."

"I'm sure she already knows," Tara said sympathetically.

"Hey, I have an idea!" Faith said suddenly. "We'll both go to the Bronze tonight, and we'll both go get our girls. It'll be a mission. You can try your confident thing, I can try my grovelling sorry thing!"

"O-Okay," Tara nodded. More thoughts of dancing with Willow flashed through her mind, and she smiled. "That sounds great."

Faith grinned. "Great! So, if all goes to plan, by the end of the night, we'll get the girls!"

I'm really enjoying the progression of this story. It's always interesting to see ones in which Faith and Tara are friends. They're so different, yet they complement each other well. I like that Faith is pushing Tara to be more assertive, and that Tara gets Faith to open up about her feelings. The show always hinted at more depth to Faith, but mostly she was just the Anti-Buffy.

Can't wait for more! (you did mention leather, I believe?:flirt )
