Summary: Set immediately after ‘Wrecked’.

Note: I wanted to tell my own version of how Willow got over her addiction and found her way back to Tara. This is gonna be a long story, so I hope you’ll stay with it.

Although Willow and Tara aren’t together at the start of the story, they will be soon.

Chapter One

“Hello?” Tara asked sharply. Her voice was dry and her throat was sore from the crying she had done. She hoped for a second it was Willow, but if it was Willow, she wasn’t sure she would be able to speak to her. She wanted to tell Willow that she loved her, that she forgave her. She wanted to say that they could get through the addiction together, that no matter what Willow did to her she wouldn’t mind, but she couldn’t; she had a point to prove.

“Hey Tara, its Buffy. Did I wake you? I know it’s kinda late…”

“No Buffy, I was up. Is everything ok?” Tara asked worriedly.

“No, it’s Willow.”

Willow. One word, that’s all it took. The one word that would make Tara’s heart smile and break at the same time. What had Willow done? Was she hurt? Had she hurt someone? Tara had never felt so lost since her mother died. She felt so useless. She had spent hours wondering if she could call Willow or go over and see her. And now she was too late.

“What’s happened?” She asked shakily.

She heard Buffy sigh on the other end of the phone.

“I don’t know Tara. I came home, and Dawn had left at note saying that her and Will had gone for coffee. Then I found Amy trying to steal supplies from yours and…I mean Willows’ room. She sad that Willow was going to see this Warlock guy, and she had taken Dawn with her, so Spike and I went to find them, and…”

“And what?!” Tara asked impatiently, her heart was breaking with every word Buffy said.

“She was a mess. She taken a car, and crashed. Dawn was in the car too but they’re both ok. She came out of the car and her eyes were black and there was magic coming out of her.”

“What?! How could she be so stupid?! What the hell was she thinking?!”

“Tara-”

“No Buffy, why would she do this? What did you do when she came out of the car?”

“Nothing, I mean, I yelled at her, but she broke down. She just kept crying and saying how sorry she was. Tara I’ve never seen her like that. Never. It was like she didn’t even know who she was anymore.”

Tara tried to swallow the lump in her throat, but she couldn’t. She let her tears fall. How could this be happening? How could her sweet, beautiful Willow become like this. Was it her fault? Had she pushed her to this by getting her mind taken by Glory? Was that how it had started. How could she have missed the signs? She shouldn’t have agreed to help with bringing Buffy back.

As soon as Tara thought this she regretted it. Of course she was happy Buffy was back, Buffy was her friend. But was it really worth it? Buffy was happier when she was dead, and Willow was the Willow Tara had fallen in love with. Sure, they were having trouble with the vampires, but were things really better with back. Were they’re less vampires? Was everybody really happy? Tara took a deep breath and stopped her train of thought. There was no point in thinking like that anyway. Buffy was here, and as a result Willow was addicted to magic, her and Willow were apart, and she was unhappier than she had ever been in her life. But she just had to get on with things. First of all, she had to see her Willow.

“Buffy, I’ll be right over.”

To Be Continued.

“Hey, thanks for coming Tara.” Buffy said as she opened the door and let Tara in.

“Where is she?” Tara asked. Buffy wasn’t sure if it was anger she heard in Tara’s voice or fear.

“She’s upstairs.”

Tara nodded, and headed up to Willow’s room.

She knocked first, but there was no reply, so she decided to walk in. Her lover was sitting up on the bed, staring into space. Tara had thought on the way over that when she saw Willow she would shout at her; but she couldn’t. She had seen Willow look angry; she had seen Willow look confused, and she had seen Willow look sad. But she had never seen Willow look this lost.

She walked over and sat next to Willow on the bed. She carefully put her hand on Willow’s shoulder, being careful not to startle her.

“Hey.” She said gently.

Willow didn’t look at her, but Tara could tell by the way Willow’s eyes lit up for just a second, that she knew she was there.

They sat in silence for a few minutes, until Tara decided to speak again.

“Buffy told me what happened tonight.” She waited for Willow to speak. She wanted Willow to say something, anything, but she just stared into nothing.

“Willow, talk to me please.” Tara pleaded.

Willow looked at her as if she was a stranger.

“Why are you here Tara?” She asked.

Tara smiled sadly, saying the first and only answer that came into her mind.

“Because I love you.”

Willow laughed unexpectedly, “you shouldn’t; you have no idea about what I’ve done.”

“I think I can guess Willow. I know you better than you think I do.”

“I’m a bad person Tara.” Willow admitted sadly.

Tara took one of Willow’s hands in her own.

“No you’re not. Yes, you made a mistake, everyone does. But if you were really a bad person, then you wouldn’t be sitting here going out of your mind with guilt. The fact that you feel so bad shows that you’re a good person that did something wrong.”

“How can you forgive me so easily?” Willow asked.

“I didn’t say that I’d forgiven you; I just said you weren’t a bad person. I’m still mad at you.” Tara said.

Willow nodded, “yeah, everyone’s kinda mad at me right now.”

“Can you blame them?”

“I guess not. But I didn’t mean for this to happen Tara; I swear I didn’t. The magic just made me feel so happy and alive.”

“And I didn’t make you feel that way.” Tara said sadly.

“What? No, you did; you made me really happy. You still make me really happy.”

“But not as happy as the magic does.” Tara stated.

“I’m sorry Tara.” Willow said.

Tara smiled slightly; that was the first time Willow had apologised to her and really meant it.

“So, what happens now?” Willow asked.

“Well, I think you should try to avoid magic, talk to Dawn-”

“No Tara, I meant what happens next with us.”

“Oh. Well, I think we should just see what happens. if you’re willing to give up magic, Then maybe we have a chance.”

Willow suddenly stood up.

“See that’s what’s getting to me Tara. Buffy says that Dawn might forgive me if I give up magic; and now you’re saying that we might have a chance if I give up magic. So what you’re all saying is that even if I do give up magic then things might not even get better!”

Tara stood up and walked over to Willow, “Willow please, calm down.”

“No! Why the hell should I?! You all expect me to give up the one thing that actually makes me special just because you’ve all decided that it might make things better. No Tara, why should I give up? It’s the only thing that makes me happy now.” Willow said, tears streaming down her face. She walked over to her closet, put on her jacket and headed for the door.

“Wait! Where are you going?” Tara asked worriedly.

“I don’t know. Anywhere; it’s not like there’s anything keeping me here now.” Willow said.

“What…what if there was.” Tara said.

“What do you mean?” Willow asked.

“What if there was me.” Tara said, not thinking about the consequences of what she was saying, just doing anything she could to get Willow to stay.

“What if we tried again?” Tara said.

To Be Continued.

“Are you serious?” Willow asked hopefully. She didn’t really believe what she was hearing. Could Tara really be giving her another chance after all she had done?

Tara looked at the woman who had stolen her heart, and then broken it. Was she really prepared to get back together with Willow this quickly? She had known they would be reunited eventually. There was no question of that; they were soul-mates. But Tara had wanted to wait a while, to let Willow see that what she had done to their relationship was wrong. But on the other hand, she couldn’t stand the thought of Willow storming out sad and alone. Beside, this was Willow. And any doubts Tara had would soon fade.

“Yes. I want to be with you again Will. But I need you to promise that there will be no more magic and no more lying. I can't go through it again. I want to be with you more than anything, but I have to be able to trust you.” Tara said seriously.

“You can trust me baby, I promise. I can change. I can be better. I hate how much I hurt you and I want to spend forever making it up to you.”

Tara smiled. This was the Willow she had fallen in love with. The Willow who, no matter how confused she was about everything else, always wanted to make Tara happy.

Willow walked over to Tara and put her hands on her waist. She looked deep into her soul-mates’ eyes silently asking for permission. Tara nodded slightly, and Willow kissed her.

The kiss started out slow, until Tara made the first move to deepen it. She opened her mouth and slid her tongue on top of Willow’s. Willow moaned, and held on to Tara more tightly.

Neither of them wanted the kiss to end. They kissed until they were forced to pull apart for air. Willow leaned back slightly and tucked Tara’s hair behind her ears.

“Are you sure this is what you want?” She asked.

Tara nodded, “All I want is to be with you.” She answered honestly.

Willow smiled “good, cause all I want is to be with you.”

She leaned forward to kiss Tara again, but Tara stopped her.

“Will, we need to talk.”

Willow lowered her head, “I know Tara.”

Tara took her lover’s hands and led her over to the bed. They sat facing each other.

“When did it get this bad Will?”

Willow sighed, “After I turned Amy back. She wanted to have fun too, and I didn’t really care about anything after you left. I didn’t think about what the magic was doing to me because I’d lost the most important person in my life.”

“But I was still with you. You know that. Even when it was bad I gave you chance after chance to change and you wouldn’t. What’s so much better about magic than what we had together?”

Willow’s head shot up “Nothing Tara. It’s just a different kind of feeling, but it doesn’t last. It makes me feel good for a few days, and then the feeling goes away. But with you, its amazing all the time. All you have to do is look at me and I feel incredible, like I can do anything. I can’t believe how stupid I was.”

“We were both stupid to think we could live separate lives…without each other.” Tara said.

Willow smiled, “we belong together.”

Tara nodded, “we do.” She agreed as she kissed her love.

~*~*~*~*~*

Rack shook his head as he heard those words. He was standing below their window and could hear everything that was going on. He decided almost instantly that he didn’t like this blond witch. She was trying to take his Strawberry away from him; and he wasn’t about to let her succeed.

Tara walked downstairs into the living room. She and Willow had talked until Willow had eventually given into sleep. Tara had stayed by her side watching her love sleep, but had eventually decided she needed to eat something.

“Hey Buffy,” she said as she sat on the couch.

“Hey Tara, you hungry?” Buffy asked.

“I was just gonna go get something to eat, you want anything?” Tara asked.

“Actually I need to talk to you. Willow told me that she’s’ fine, but, I know she’s not. I need to know how we can help her. I mean. I’m so used to her helping me; I don’t know what to do.” Buffy said.

“I know what you mean Buffy. I didn’t really expect her to be in the state she was in. She looked so lost. I feel so useless. Like there is nothing I can say or do to make the pain go away.”

“How is she now?” Buffy asked.

“She’s sleeping. I’ve…we’ve decided to try again.” Tara said.

“Oh, well that’s good, right?”

“Yes, it’s great. I mean, I love her and I missed her so much. But we’re just gonna take things slow to start off.” Tara said.

“Yeah, and we can all help her get through it together, although I’m not sure Dawn’s gonna want to talk to her for a while.” Buffy stated.

“Yeah, I don’t blame her for being angry. I’ll talk to her tomorrow.” Tara said.

Buffy stood up and said, “Ok. Well if you wanna go get something to eat and have a rest I’ll go up and stay with Will till she wakes up.” Buffy said.

Tara smiled, "Thanks Buffy, but could you come get me when she wakes up?” She asked.

“No problem.” Buffy replied as she headed upstairs.

She knocked on Willow’s door and got no reply. She figured her best friend was still sleeping, so she walked in.

Buffy froze at the sight that greeted her.

The room was completely empty, and the window was wide open with the curtain flapping. There was blood on the wall, Willow’s blood.

Willow and Tara Forever.

~*~*~*~*~

“Oh god!” Buffy cried. She didn’t know what to do. If she went downstairs she would have to tell Tara, and she didn’t know what Tara’s reaction would be. But if she stayed frozen to the spot, who knows what could be happening to Willow.

She heard footsteps behind her and turned to see Tara walking towards her.

“Hey Buffy, what’s-”

Tara’s heart almost stopped when she took in the sight of the room. Willow was no longer there, and there was blood on the wall.

“Oh god, no…no she can’t be!” Tara cried. Buffy pulled her friend into a hug.

“Tara, it’s okay. She can’t have been gone for long, we’ll get her back, don’t worry.

“Why Buffy?” She’s just given up, why did this have to happen?!” Tara shouted.

“I don’t know Tara, but it’s obvious who’s got her.” Buffy said.

“Rack.” Tara spat the word, like it was hurting her to say it.

Buff nodded, “if we leave now, you should be able to feel where he is. She’ll be okay Tara. He wants her power, so he won’t hurt her.”

“That’s not all I’m worried about Buffy.” Tara said sadly.

“What do you mean?” Buffy asked.

Tara sighed, “what if she uses magic? It’ll just be another repeat of last night. She’ll lose control.” She said sadly.

“We won’t let that happen,” Buffy began, “c’mon.”

~*~*~*~*~*

Willow sat up suddenly as she came to. She took In her surroundings and immediately knew where she was; Racks’.

She felt blood seeping out of her forehead, and reached up to put her hand on the wound, but found she couldn’t. Rack had tied her up.

“Hey Strawberry, I thought you were gonna nap all day!” Rack said.

“What…why am I here”? Willow asked shakily. She knew that by simply saying one word she could knock Rack across the room. But she wouldn’t let Tara down like that. She wouldn’t use magic; and Rack knew it.

“Why do you think?” He asked sarcastically.

He walked over and kneeled down in front of her.

“You’ve got power strawberry; real power. Not like that Amy girl who doesn’t have a clue what she’s doing. You’ve got the same kind of power as me. We could be good together, what’d you say?” He asked evilly.

Willow saw an axe hit Rack’s head, and he fell back. She looked up and saw Tara standing over him, axe in hand.

“Sorry,” Tara began, “She’s already taken."

Note: Tara’s mother is alive and well, and her family are happy. Everything else on the show happened except Tara’s family never came in season five and she never thought she was a demon.

Note: Willow and Tara got back together in ‘Entropy’ but Tara never died. This story takes place during the summer after season six.

Note: I know I have other stories to finish but this idea came into my head and I really wanted to share it with you.

“So, are you nervous about meeting her?” Steve asked his wife.

Heather nodded, “A little. But she must be as amazing as Tara says if they’ve been together this long.” She replied.

“Yeah, but I just wish we’d met her before now. I mean, this is Tara’s first serious relationship. What if Willow doesn’t like us?” Steve said.

“She Will, Tara’s told us all about Willow, so she must have told Willow about us. Besides, I’m sure she wouldn’t agree to meet us if she thought it wouldn’t go well.” Heather said.

The front door opened and Donnie and Jo walked in

“Hey guys, are they here yet?” Jo asked hopefully.

She missed her big sister. They had always been close, but slightly less since Tara had met Willow. Jo had been slightly jealous at first over how much Tara had spoken about Willow whenever they talked on the phone, but when she realised how happy this woman made her big sister, she was happy as well.

“Not yet sweetie, they won’t be long though.” Her mother replied.

“So,” Donnie began as he sat next to his father on the couch, “You nervous about meting her then dad?” He asked.

“A little, but I’m sure once we get to know her we’ll see if she as amazing as your sister says.” Steve replied.

“What about you mom? Are you nervous about meeting the woman who’s stolen your eldest daughter’s heart?” Donnie asked his mother.

Heather nodded, “a little. I don’t wanna be, but I need to make sure she’s good enough for Tara. I don’t want to see her get hurt.”

Donnie laughed slightly, “So what are you expecting her to be like mom?” He asked.

“Well, I’m sure she must be perfectly normal, Tara wouldn’t be with her otherwise. I’m sure we’ll all love her when we meet her.” Heather replied, not really sure whether to believe what she was saying.

“What if she’s, I don’t know, say…addicted to dark magic?” Donnie asked sarcastically

“Very funny Donald. Don’t put ideas like that in your mothers head.” Steve said.

“Yes, and besides, of all the horrible things she could be, she won’t be addicted to magic, Tara wouldn’t be with her if she was.” Heather said.

~*~*~*~*~

Tara pulled the car into her parents drive. “Well, here we are. You nervous?” She asked her lover.

Willow nodded, “Kinda. I mean, what if they don’t like me?” She asked nervously.

“Sweetie, we’ve been through this. They’re gonna love you. And I want them to meet the most important person in my life, so don’t be nervous, ok.” Tara said.

Willow nodded, “ok, just as long as I know they’re not gonna hate me.”

Tara smirked slightly, “Never gonna happen. It’s not possible to hate you.” She said, and she leaned forward and kissed her lover.

She pulled back and cupped Willow’s face.

“Once they see how amazing you are and how happy you make me, they’re gonna love you.” She said

Willow and Tara Forever.

~*~*~*~*~*~

“Xander, hurry up!” Willow shouted at her best friend.

Xander sighed from where he was standing at the counter putting the icing on Tara’s cake.

“What’s the hurry Will? Tara’s not due home for another hour.” He said.

“She might come back early Xand, she’s done it before.” Willow said.

Willow walked back into the living room of her and Tara’s newly bought house. She saw Buffy and Dawn putting the finishing touches on the decorations and smiled.

She couldn’t wait to see her fiancé. One week was just too long for them to be apart. She felt like a part of her was physically missing.

Today was different from any other of Tara’s homecomings, because today was Tara’s birthday.

Willow had spoken to Tara on the phone the night before. She had lied to Tara by telling her that the two of them would celebrate Tara’s birthday with a quiet, romantic meal. But really, the scoobies had planned a surprise ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Welcome Home’ party for Tara. Willow also had another surprise for Tara, but that was for later.

“Willow, she’s here!” Dawn shouted as she saw Tara pull up in the driveway.

Willow smiled and checked her outfit one more time before joining her friends in the living room.

Tara opened the front door and put her briefcase down. She rubbed her eyes tiredly and took off her jacket.

“Will?” She shouted. She got no response and sighed; all she wanted to do was kiss her gorgeous fiancé.

She turned and walked into the living room. She nearly jumped out of her skin when all of the scoobies shouted ‘Surprise!’ at her at the same time.

She smiled hugely as she looked around the room. It was decorated with balloons and banners. There was food laid out, and there were presents everywhere.

But right in the middle of the room was the greatest sight that Tara could have ever imagined; Willow.

Tara walked towards her lover and put her arms around her waist. She didn’t think it was possible, but Willow was even sexier then when Tara had left.

Willow looked deep into Tara’s eyes.

“Hey You.” Willow said simply.

Tara couldn’t wait any longer. She pulled Willow even tighter against her body and kissed her passionately.

Their mouths opened and their tongues came out to play. They knew they should stop so Tara could say hello to everyone, but they couldn’t.

Willow eventually pulled back but stayed so close to Tara that their lips were almost kissing.

“I missed you baby.” Willow said quietly.

“Oh God Will, I missed you so much!” Tara replied.

Willow smiled and kissed Tara again lightly.

“Happy birthday sweetie.” She said as she pulled back.

“Thank you.” Tara answered.

Willow took Tara’s hand and they walked over to their friends.

“Finally decided to step out of you love bubble huh?” Anya asked sarcastically. She was slightly jealous that Xander never showed her affection like that in public.

Willow and Tara just smiled at each other, losing themselves in each other’s eyes.

“Happy birthday Tara.” Dawn said as she walked forward and hugged Tara.

“Thanks sweetie.” Tara said as she pulled back.

“Welcome home Tara.” Buffy said as she also stepped forward and hugged her friend.

“Tara, happy birthday. Personally, I thought we should have told you about the party before you came home. But Willow said that some lies, such as those involving birthday celebrations, were ok, so-”

“Anya, please. We’ve had this conversation too many times.” Willow said, cutting the ex-demon off.

Anya sighed, “Fine. Welcome home Tara, I missed you.” She said.

Tara smiled and thanked her.

Xander stood up and said, “So birthday girl, let’s start opening your presents.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Willow and Tara were finally alone. They were sitting kissing on the swing seat on the back porch.

“Mmn, God, I almost forgot hat an amazing kisser you are.” Willow said as she pulled back.

“No-where near as amazing as you love.” Tara said honestly.

“I missed you.” Willow said.

“I missed you too darling. I can’t leave again…a week is just too long.” Tara said.

“That’s what you said last time you came home.” Willow said playfully.

Tara pulled back slightly.

“I mean it Willow. I can’t stand spending time away from you. I love you.” She said seriously.

Willow leaned in and kissed Tara gently.

“I love you too.” She said as she pulled back.

Willow took an envelope out of her pocket.

“I was gonna wait and give you this after everyone had left, but…here.” Willow said as she handed Tara the envelope.

“What’s this?” Tara asked as she took the envelope.

“It’s your present.” Willow answered.

“Baby…you’ve given me so much already.” Tara said.

“Well, actually, it’s kinda for both of us. Open it.” Willow said.

Tara opened it and saw that inside there was an invitation. She read it out loud;

“You are invited to witness the marriage of Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay on Saturday, 25th of December, 2004.”

Tara felt tears spring to her eyes.

“Where?” She asked.

"What?” Willow asked.

“Where will we get married?” Tara asked.

Willow smiled hugely.

“Are you sure you want to baby? I mean, it’s up to you. It is only two months away and maybe I should have talked to you about it first-”

Tara silenced Willow with a loving kiss.

“I want to marry you as soon as possible Willow.”

Summary: A different take on season six. Takes place a few weeks after Buffy has died.

~*~*~*~*~*

Willow sighed as Tara frowned at what was written in the book in front of her.

“Come on sweetie. It’s a solid plan. It’s all we’ve got now.” Willow said, desperately trying to convince her lover.

Tara sighed. Willow looked so hopeful. For the first time since Buffy died Tara thought she could see a slight smile forming at the corners of Willow’s mouth. However, as much as she wanted that smile to break through, she knew she had to stand up for her beliefs.

“Honey, we can’t.” She said simply.

Willow looked at her quizzically.

“Why not Tara? We don’t have any other choice. Things are falling apart. Not just the demons and the vampires, but us. All of us. We’ve drifted apart. I don’t know how to look after Dawn. She needs Buffy…we all do.” Willow said pleadingly.

“Darling, no. I know how much this is tearing you apart, but we can’t. Other people don’t get these choices, so we shouldn’t either.” Tara said.

“Yeah, but other people don’t have to protect the world without a slayer do they?” Willow said as she stood up and walked over to the window.

Tara sighed, and walked after her. She hugged her lover form behind.

“Willow, we can’t. That’s not what I want;I'd love to have Buffy back. It would take the weight of the world off of our shoulders, and everyone would be happy again. But we just can’t. It’s against everything we believe in sweetie, it’s against everything I was taught.” Tara said.

Willow sighed as a sob wracked her body. She turned around in Tara’s embrace and rested her forehead against her soul mate’s.

“I’m scared Tara. I don’t know what to do. Up until now, I had this safety net. Like Buffy wasn’t really gone because I was gonna bring her back but, but you’re right…its’ wrong. But it doesn’t make it easier Tara.” She said.

Tara stroked her cheek, “Sshh, Darling, everything will be ok.”

“No! How can it be Tara? I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be thinking this, but-” Willow paused, letting her tears fall freely.

“But what?” Tara asked gently.

“But it’s too much. It’s just all too much. I’m twenty years old Tara. Before, I was just one of the gang who fought, now I’m the leader of the gang. And we have to look after Dawn, and I have to do all this magic. I just…don’t think I can do it.” She cried.

Tara pulled Willow into a close hug. Her heart was breaking with each tear that fell from Willow’s eyes. But she remained strong. She could cry later. All that mattered to her at that moment was comforting the woman she loved more than her own life.

“I know Will, I know. We don’t deserve this…you don’t deserve this. And I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but things will get better, I promise. We can talk to Mr Giles about arrangements for Dawn, and we can manage to keep the Vamps at bay for now, but sweetie, we cannot bring Buffy back. You have to know that. Performing that spell would eventually lead you onto a path of self destruction, and as long as I am breathing I will not let that happen.”

Willow kissed Tara gently, feeling safe for the first time since Buffy’s death.

Re: New Fic: How it Could Have Been I always wondered what W/T did after Buffy's death and how Willow convinced Tara to go along with the resurrection spell.

Please keep going. I enjoy your other fics on the board as well. How do you keep up with all of them?

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.
