~Part 40b~~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The crowd grew silent when the curtains began to open. Hadley was in the back, trying so hard to hide her excitement. She kept squeezing Lily’s hand. Looking back she found Mikey standing in his costume, waving at them with a wide smile.
“Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen. Thank you for joining us here tonight for Sunnydale Elementary’s School Production. We have a special treat for you tonight. One of our very own first grade student will be doing a song for the opening. Here’s the lovely, Hadley Maclay!” Miss Emerson quickly put the microphone down and took her seat.
Hadley was pushed a little by Lily, when she finally realized her turn was near. Clearing her throat she looked out at the crowd in front of her. Butterflies flew in her stomach, she needed something to calm her nerves.
She heard someone knocking.
Hadley answered back in her mind.
Tara spoke softly.
That’s all Hadley needed, she smiled and looked at her parents. When the piano began to play, she straightened out her dress.
There's a song that inside of my soul.
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again.
I'm awake in the infinite cold,
But you sing to me over and over and over again.
Hadley’s voice hit the first chord dead on. The auditorium went quiet and all eyes and ears were on this little girl.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray
To be only yours
I pray. to be only yours.
I know now you're my
only hope.
Tara and Willow looked at each other, both eyes glossy and faces plastered with smiles. “She so has your voice.” Willow whispered into Tara’s ear.
Sing to me the song of the stars.
Of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again.
When it feels like my dreams are so far
Sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.
Tori looked at her girlfriend, eyes wide with happiness for her niece. That voice could light up any room. Dawn returned the gaze and snuggled in closer.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours.
I know now you're my
only hope.
I give you my destiny.
I'm giving you all of me.
I want your symphony.
Singing in all that I am.
At the top of my lungs,
I'm giving it back.
Hadley’s wings were sparking up on stage as she made little movement. Her heart was still pounding, and she couldn’t figure out if the room, being so quiet, was a good thing. Smiling back at her family, she kept her confidence.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours.
I pray to be only yours.
I know now you're my
only hope.
A loud boom came from within the auditorium, and everyone stood, clapping and throwing out a few whistles here and there. Tara and Willow looked at each other, grins from ear to ear. They would go and hug their little girl, but the play had just started.
Hadley dissolved into giggles, holding the microphone up to face, as if she were hiding behind it. Her blue eyes smiled. She was so happy, and it made her happier to know that she wasn’t a disappointment.

Anya felt the excitement of her motherhood surface again. She had just watched a whole school play, full of little kids and she noticed that not one of them were evil. “Xander!” She smiled. “When can I have the baby? I want one of those cute little kids that were singing and dancing on the stage.”
Xander smiled softly. “Give it about five months.”
Anya grumbled and sat down in her chair. “In five months the baby could have horns or something…”
“Anya, sweetie, the baby is not going to have horns.” Xander soothed.
Hadley came running out from behind the stage and jumped into Xander’s lap. “I got something for the baby.” She said excitedly.
Anya’s eyes lit up when it was an angel holding a piggy bank. “For our baby?”
Hadley nodded and smiled widely. “Miss Emerson gave to me as a stocking stuffer, but I already have three. I want the baby to have this one.”
Xander kissed the back of Hadley’s head. “You are a real sweetheart.”
Anya wrapped her arms around Hadley and picked her up, surprised of how light the little girl was. “Thank you!” She swirled her around and gently put her down.
The rest of the gang sat back and watched the affection that Anya was giving Hadley. It’s not like the didn’t think she’d be a good mother, it’s just they never seen her so emotional. Xander enjoyed these moments he got to share with his friends. When alone, he did see Anya’s emotional side. He had to let the gang know that she wasn’t hard as rock. His fiancee does have feelings.
“Well Hadley, you truly are the Angel of Hope.” Tori smiled and knelt beside the small blonde. “You did the most fantastic job on that stage. Your voice…the way you held yourself, I am just so proud of you. This calls for ice cream, on me.” She tightly hugged her niece.
Hadley smiled inside, even though she was used of being the center of attention, she loved tonight in particular. She sang, she acted, and most of all, her mommy was home. She was just so happy.
“Yes, let’s all go for ice cream!” Anya clapped her hands and took Hadley’s hand.
“Wow,” Faith whispered to Xander and Buffy. “Anya really is mastering the whole mother thing and she seems to be spoiling Hadley every chance she gets.”
Buffy smiled. “Hadley is always spoiled. She’s the only young beautiful girl in this group. And for a while, she was my Maclay.” Buffy frowned in thought and turned to Willow and Tara. “She can still be my Maclay right?”
Tara and Willow laughed lightly. “Yes Buffy, you can still spoil her like you did in LA.”
With a satisfied smirk, Buffy went back to snuggling with Faith. “You can help me spoil her.”
“No problems there.” Faith kissed Buffy on the forehead.

Willow nuzzled Tara’s neck as the scoobies were the last of the families to leave the school. She breathed in every scent of Tara, every scent she missed. She grinned, pulling Tara tighter against her.
Tara smiled and locked eyes with Willow. Leaning in, she kissed the red head softly, tangling her fingers in red tresses she pulled her closer. The night air surrounding them. Pulling back, Tara’s eyes were glazed over with want. “Can we just skip the ice cream?” She whispered.
Willow smiled softly and pointed to their daughter. “WE could, but we have celebrating to do.” She leaned in and kissed Tara again. “But soon love.”
Tara sighed and laced her fingers into Willow’s following the others out to their vehicles. Hadley came bouncing in between, making them unlaced their fingers so she could hold on to each of her parents hands. “Mama? Can Aunt Tori take your car back so we can ride with mommy to the ice cream shop? That way we’d be a family again and then we don’t have to keep switching vehicles? Because if you go into your car and mommy goes into hers, then I would have to choose and I don’t want to choose because that’d be a really tough one, so can Dawn go with Aunt Tori? And Buffy and Faith can go with either Anya and Xander or Aunt Tori and Dawn?”
Willow’s eyes grew wide then she burst into giggles. Tara was right, Hadley became a babbler. It was cute.
“Yes my girl, we’ll go with mommy.” Tara smirked at Willow, throwing her a ‘I told you so’ look.
“Yay!” Hadley swung her hands, dragging her parents to Willow’s black corvette. “On the road again…” She sang.

“No, it was great really. It would’ve been great if I had my family with me.” Willow smiled. Everyone was gathered around the Maclays, eating their ice cream. They decided to call it a night and just head somewhere comfortable. So, naturally, the gang showed up at the Maclays, as they followed Willow.
Hadley smiled, chocolate ice cream all around her mouth, she looked so innocent. “I’m tired.” She finally yawned.
“Okay, we’ll tuck you into bed after I get you cleaned up.” Tara grinned and excused herself from the table. She grabbed her daughters sticky hand and lead them to the washroom.
Willow waited until they were out of sight. “I bought something for Tara.”
Dawn grinned. “Didn’t you buy something for everyone?”
Buffy nudged her sister. “Dawn.” She frowned then looked at Willow, mouthing, “Did you?”
Willow smiled and continued on what she was saying. “I bought something for Tara, I wanted to know if you guys will think she’d like it.” She looked at her friends. “And no spilling this okay?” She looked at Tori and Dawn.
“Hey, why are you looking at us?” Tori questioned.
Willow smiled softly and pulled out a small burgundy box. Slowly, she opened it. “It’s an engagement ring.” She whispered.
The mouths fell open around the table. The looked at the smooth silver band, inside the band there was something engraved. “What does that say?” Buffy squinted.
“’Together, Our Souls Are Embedded.’ And yes, I know it’s long, but that’s why the writing is so tiny.” Willow blushed a bit.
“I love the way the Sapphire and Emerald stones mix together.” Faith said in awe.
Willow beamed. “I got this at this Enchantment store in Australia. It was so beautiful and I actually had that time to myself. So I was looking through these different assorted rings and the guy in the back asked me what exactly I was looking for. I told him and pulled me into the back and showed me ones that usually weren’t for sale. So, I bought this one…apparently in ancient times, the stones emerge or something…not sure how that works, but it’s a good luck ring. It’s perfect for Tara.”
Tori and Dawn were impressed. “How much did you pay for it?” Dawn asked.
“Dawnie!” Tori playfully smacked her girlfriend. “You don’t ask that question.”
“Yea!” Anya agreed. “I asked Xander how much my ring cost and he said, ‘A woman never tells her age, so a man shall never tell the price he spends on his lady’, though in this case, it would be woman.” She beamed.
“Right.” Willow smiled and closed the small box. “So, do you think she’ll like?”
“Are you kidding? She’ll love it Willow.” Tori smiled. “And about this Enchantment thing, anymore details about how the ring works?”
“The guy gave me some background on it, I haven’t read it yet seeing as it’s packed in my luggage, but like I said, it’s good luck and dreams and all of that. I made sure of it.” Willow placed the box back into her purse. “I know I already asked her to marry me, but this time, I’m really nervous.”
“You asked her?” Faith raised an eyebrow, grinning.
“I did, but it wasn’t romantic or anything.” Willow sighed.
“And she said?”
Willow frowned. “I don’t think she gave a straight answer, mainly because I told her not too.”
“Hadley is so gonna thank the Goddess’ for making one of her dreams come true.” Tori whispered to Dawn.
Hadley and Tara came back in and they both took Willow’s hand. “Sorry, but we’re stealing her away for a bit. She must help put the monkey girl into bed.”
“Hey! I’m not a monkey girl!” Hadley giggled.
“You jump on beds don’t you?” Willow grinned. “We’ll be back in a few.”
The three made their way out of the kitchen and into Hadley’s room, to say their goodnights, like always.
